dont you just love the mpg figures ! there are about three diffrent guys around here that claim in the 20 mpg! bs. numbers maybe with a gv i dont know but my rpm is only 2000 at 80 and i can only get 16. 8 or 17 at any speed thats with a chip and stanadyne no chip no treat 15. 4 mpg low 16 .

I agree. You may see 20mpg if you drive 40mph in a 2wd manual trans. with absolutely no headwind. But at 80mph the air your pushing out of the way alone will kill your milage so bad and no amount of gearing is going to overcome that.

My 4x4 auto quad cab turns about 1900 rpm at 75mph. I get 18-19 mph on the highway, closer to 15 around time. That's hand calculated, and includes my edge juice on mileage.

I don't doubt a manual 4x4 could get 20 or 21, but I just don't see breaking that.

The big deal for an allison would be the extra gears for driving around town. It would probably boost that mileage number, but there's no way it would affect the highway number much if at all.

I have no doubt that a 2wd can get 20mpg, my roommate has a 2001 5spd 2wd and gets 20-22mpg on the highway at 65-70 mph

On the highway, with the truck in 6th and on cruise, I get 20. 1@55MPH. If I go to 65MPH (which is what I usually keep it at), I get about 19. 2. This is with a 4. 10:1 rear and 2wd 2001 truck.
