I am curious to know if anyone has used either one of the torque converter lock-up control modules and if there is any gain in fuel economy, loss of longevity, or any other issues experienced, good or bad. My truck has a stock transmission and am tired of waiting till I am doing 52 mph for the converter to lock!!! hello?

I don't have an answer on those components but I did own an 03 and know what you are talking about. One thing you can do to force lockup sooner and should work well with 35's & 3. 73 is to turn OD off and bare down harder on the throttle. From there for faster speeds you can click the OD on.

The combination of OD off and more throttle commands lock up. At least it worked that way on my 03.

With light throttle use I was always waiting.

ATS Commander

BBowers - I have the ATS Commander with my ATS trans and 5-Star Converter. I really like it. I normally have the lockup set to about 37 mph which usually locks in OD if I'm easy on the pedal. A heavier foot will get lockup in third. For racing or demostrations I set it somewhat lower to get the lockup right after the second gear shift and it usually breaks the tires loose. (Great to impress those who don't know much about these common rail trucks).

I can turn the Commander off and let the factory PCM do the lockup if I need smoother shifts, (like if the wife takes the truck), because the when the 5-Star converter locks, it locks, as in right now. I can leave the Commander controlling converter and I can actually stay in lockup down to about 1000 rpm in OD. The earlier lockup and hold of lockup seems to net better MPG. Plus riding around in the lower rpms sounds neat with my MBRP exhaust.

When I first got the ATS stuff I noticed about 1 to 2 MPG better because the stock set-up always seemed to be slipping around town in traffic and all. However, about that time I put on the big SPS66 turbo and other fueling boxes and it seemed to go down a little, probably because of my diving habits. Anyway, I recommend you call the manufacturers and talk to ther techs and decide for yourself. Just my 2 cents

Oo. Bill
