My father's best friend's son took out the family Chebby 1/2 ton to show off with friends. Brand new Z71 with everything. He took it out to Pacifica (on the coast, just south of San Francisco) and drove out on the beach to go late night drinking with his friends. The tide was out.

Several beers later they discovered that the tide was coming in. The water was up to the axles at this point. All was going well until the kids discovered they had to drive around the breakwater to get back to the beach.

The breakwater was another 50 yards into the ocean. Too deep to drive into.

So the kid parked the truck, and watched as the tide came in. Water got 1/2 way up the windows.

The sheriff showed up and called a tow rig, but they had to wait for low tide. The sheriff also called pops... But the kid would not allow the sheriff to give him back to his father. Mommy had to pick him up, as he had the fear of death in him. (This kid has also totaled a couple of other of dad's prized posessions. Now he drives an Escort with 300k miles on it)

Anyway, the insurance company refused to total it. They sent it to a shop, changed all the fluids, filters, etc. and let it dry out for a month. I think they also replaced all the gauges and heater controls.

The truck still runs and drives, but the power seats don't work any more. They are kind of seized up. Unbelievably the power windows do work. transmission does not shift right, motor runs funny.

I kept telling the father to get rid of that thing. I think he did about six months ago when I sold him my '01 Land Cruiser.

In short, it depends on the insurance co. whether or not they'll total it.

I saw this happen a few years ago when the parking brake did not hold and the owner who left the truck running went to get something off of the dock and Slowly the truck sank into the abyss! Sorry for you loss I would be very upset as well!

Always wondered how they launched submarines.

Sorry to see a good Dodge go down, also glad that you are alright.

I had a boat delivery business for 4 years and have seen many disasters on the water and trying to get in the water, thank god you are OK,I have seen where some were not ok.

I once seen an 18 wheeler go in like that backing a 46 foot cruiser into the harbor and the driver had a seizure and the truck was in gear and down she went, the man was rescued. .

But hey it could be worse, truck can be replaced. .

Salt water is real bad on components. .

Glad you are ok. .

Hope everything works out for ya-------I would be glad the window was down for a way out--------could of been alot worse.

WOW! sorry for your loss. Hopefully the insurance treats you right and you get a new truck out of it. Just think of it like this... I bet some of those guys from TDS will see this and get the idea to ditch there fords off a boat ramp so they can get the 610 cummins :)

I thought all GM trucks worked like that, even if they weren't in any salt water or freshwater. :-laf :-laf :-laf

They should total it out. Remember all the cars flooded in tropical storm Allison? The rule of thumb for most insurance companies was if water got into the dash, it was a total loss.

Having seen some cars during my younger, wilder college days that got flooded on the beach at Galveston (usually accompanied by an overindulgence in "adult beverages"), you don't want the headaches that will ultimately haunt one of these vehicles - especially with today's computers, etc.

Who cares about the truck!!? You're lucky you're alive bucsfan.

That story is a definite testament to those little safety hammers they sell that are designed to break window glass and cut seat belts. They say if your vehicle goes in water you're not getting those doors open. If your windows are up, you're in trouble.

Just got finished taking a D. D. course (speeding). In the video it said that most electric windows will work under water for the first 15 minutes.

Believe it or not! :D

Good Luck!

I bet its totalled, especially since it was running and the engine is probably toast.

That said, I still prefer the old style brake pedals in the 02 and previous trucks. The sissy size brake pedals they put in the newer Rams are harder to work with boots on or wet feet.

It was not saltwater, it was freshwater... . For anyone who lives in the Houston area, it was Lake Conroe.

Even freshwater has certain levels of salt in it. Some lakes will contain more salt than others. Hopefully the insurance company will total it, they should. If not I would find a shop that would cover it bumper to bumper for as long as you own the truck, because I'm afraid that truck will give some problems from now on, regardless what some insurance companys may say.

Glad it did work out to your favor that you came too and was able to escape. Good luck with your claim.

Tony

Sorry about your truck but thank your lucky stars you're able to write about it Oo. Oo.

On a lighter side, seriously, you should submit that second photo to some boating magazines, the one with the launch fee sign in it... . you may win some prizes with that one :-laf :-laf :-laf :-laf

Probably total loss. Don't think you'd want it back after what it's been through, doubt it'd ever be the same.

Take care my friend, and keep us posted...
