I met with an adjuster from Progressive today. They are not going to cover any of the aftermarket accessories (about $8000 worth), including the bumpers. They are treating the RanchHands like stock, as in they do not add any value to the vehicle, therefore, I will not be compensated for them... . Here is the best part, if I take the RanchHands off, then they are going to DEDUCT $1100 off the price of the truck because it will not have any bumpers (I don't have the stock ones).

I have Gap insurance, so what I might do is take the bumpers and anything else I can anyway, and let the Gap Insurance kick in to pay off the loan. Do you think that will work?

THIS SUCKS :{

John

This is such a shame, to loose your truck like that. By reading the last post, Im assuming that you must owe about what the insuarnce co is willing to pay off. That being the case, since you have "gap" coverage, strip truck, seats, doors, tailgate, wheels, bumpers and anything else that isnt subject to fubar and go buy another truck. let them deal with whats left. Just a thought. I hope all goes OK.

John, could you go to a salvage yard & get the stock bumpers & throw them in the box (After you take your Ranch Hands off) and call it good?? Just a thaught... ... Good luck, you need it!

I asked about that... His reply was that unless they are in perfect condition and the same color as the truck, he would have to write in some labor/paint to get them to match. . Hell, they even subtracted $300 for scratches on the tailgate

my question is will you be able to keep the truck after the ins. pays it off, if not i would keep a copy of the vin number and your insurance papers that way if for some reason this truck should show up, and with carfax you can tell if its back on the road again, then ooooooohhhhh boy what fix someone is in. They pay the truck off and then take it redo it the insurance company and sell it for more than the payoff was when the accident happened, trust me it happens. .

I had (yes, had) Progressive insurance, for homeowners insurance. We got a golf ball to baseball sized hail storm. I got a estimate to replace my roof ($2,400). Well Progressive's adjuster came around and offered me $7 per shingle, and he found 10, being bad. He NEVER climbed on the roof. I told him if Progressive was that BROKE, he could keep his $70! We switched to Auto-Owners that same day... .

John, I really wish you the BEST of luck with Regressive!

who regulates these Morons? Progressive the name better suits a soup than a ins. company. $7 for each shingle, wow he is lucky he was able to walk away, did this idot realize you buy shingles by the bundle, not the freakin singles... ... .

John, I now live in Houston also.

Could I trade you my stock bumpers for the Ranch Hand + some cash if thats how the insurance company is going to treat you?

As for you foot slipping of the brake that had happened to me a few times, except it's off the clutch each time when my shoes are wet.

Yep, I've had my wet boots slip off the clutch several times and have told my self "One of these days it's going to be right through the garage! Should do something about that, uh yep! :( ".

I've thought about those shower stickems. Gerry, I probably give the 3M tape a try unless one of you geniuses has a better idea.

I'm pretty sure they have to give you replacement value for a truck exactly like yours.

That means if you had aftermarket accessories they have to figure that into the cost of the vehicle.

The next thing you can do is ak them to give you fair market value for your truck. that means they have to find an equivalent vehicle (ie same or similar accessories). I doubt they will be able to find it. Which means they will have to up the ante for you.

I had the same problem on a little ford festiva when I was in college. I wrecked it an it was totaled. they tried to give me NADA wholesale. After a bit of bickereing I asked for a Fair Market Value assesment. they couldn't find a similar car in as good or better condidtion in the country... it was low milege, spotless, alarm, cool stereo, wheels, pwr locks added (i worked in car stereo at the time). they ended up giving me full retail plus I kept all of the aftermarket stuff. . radio, amps, speakers, wheels, etc.

Fight them. eventually they will give in just to close the case. Remember. the truck will be sold with a salvage title and will be parted out at pennies on the dollar of new. Don't let them subtract replacement cost from the value of the truck. They will sell it for a SALVAGE cost not anywhere near a NADA price.

... . For anyone who lives in the Houston area, it was Lake Conroe.

I was just about to ask if that was on Lake Conroe, but I guess so. .

That looks like the ramp right off 105. Is it? I have passed by there a few times, and just want to say I recognize that marina.

Sorry to hear of your loss man, that really stinks! Best of luck to you with the insurance company!

Sorry for your loss, hope it all works out. I think they should do better than what they are offering you. It's all negotiable...

When you get your next truck, insure it with State Farm. They don't #*%# around like this. They aren't the least expensive, but you get what you pay for. State Farm has always treated me above and beyond my expectations, and I've had my share of accidents. I hate giving free advertisement, but they've earned it.

What is the buy out from the insurance company. I saw one from Florida that was flooded in one of the Hurricanes last year but otherwise looked to be in perfect shape. The motor was seized but I think they sold it on eBay for $17,000. If a Cummins ISBE is $5000 there sure isn't a lot of room for profit if you fixed it.

I'm just curious what Progressive would let you "retain the salvage" for.

OneBucsFan, I'm glad you are safe and am sorry for your unfortunate experience.

I thought of you last night while watching the History Channel. A new commercial came on for the Lincoln Mark T "luxo-truck", showing it pulling away from a boat launch ramp. As the Lincoln drives up the ramp, a cable attached to it's trailer hitch emerges from the water. Attached to the cable is the new Cadillac "luxo-truck" pulling an empty boat trailer. Apparently the implication is that the Caddy didn't have enough power to pull up a boat and was dragged back into the water. The commercial looked shockingly similar to those pictures you provided.

Normally I would have laughed at this ending, but I couldn't help thinking that this really happened to you. :(

That's quite a bit more reasonable than the price from Dodge or Cummins, although comparing this "sorta new/no warranty" engine against a Dodge or Cummins-sourced engine might not be apples-to-apples. It just cost $14K to replace the engine in my cousin's 2003 HO when his local service station left the oil drain plug loose. I'm glad he (or I) wasn't paying the bill.

Rusty

I was away last week and missed this whole fiasco. OneBucsFan... I weep for you and your truck.

Very sorry to see something like that happen to anyone, but I'm glad you're physically unharmed.
