I am back to my Super-B turbo. I was setting everything back up and have it set as follows. #10 plate is now full forward, AFC is full forward, but star wheel is backed off a bit. The turbo is running at 45 psi max at full throttle. EGTS run about 1200, but I can get them to 1400 if I let the RPM get to 32-3300. I have not seen higher EGTs than that. The exhaust is hazy but not to bad. I might back the plate off a little if it gets out of hand. My main concern is head gasket. I have had the engine rebuilt but they did not o-ring or stud anything. Another issue is timing. I think my timing may be a little high but the truck seems to run fine. What sort of timing would be the best to run. I think the timing is up around 20* but i am not sure. The engine makes a little more noise than a stock engine does but its not bad.

If it were me, Id back the timing down to around 16. Id also be worried about that boost level with a stock HG and no studs. I would think down around 35psi would be a safer boost level.

If it were me, I also would follow FordCummins suggestions. Way too timing for not having studs and stock turbo. It won't last long driving lit like that.

anybody have timing tools I can borrow. and is there an upgraded nut and washer for the pump that I need to get.

I have a set of tools that I have been renting out. If you want them, I can send them to you, but there is one guy that is line before you. PM me if you want them. has everything but a barring tool.

I have heard that the super B can be run up to 45PSI because the drive pressure is not as high as the HX35.

Super Bs are wastegated at 42-45psi from BD power, but that kind of boost on a stock headgasket and no studs is still pretty dang high.

I would not need to run anymore air than 45psi, I just don't want to pop the head gasket. If I put in head studs would I be able to run the 45-50 psi boost and leave it alone.

A set of studs will keep you safe up to 50 psi

Ok, I am going to check timing, and set this thing to about 36psi for now until I get studs. Thanks for your help again.

I know its not the "safe" thing to do, but Ive been running 40+ psi on stock HG and bolts, with 200K miles for quite sometime now.

I think a super B at 45psi is safer than most guys running 36-38 with an HX35. Just my opinion.

And FWIW, LOTS of hp has been made with stock HG/bolts re-torqued.

Just giving everybody a little update. My injection timing was set at 22. 5* advanced. I am glad I got that taken care of. I just set the injection timing to around 16*, its more like 15. 5 but close. Everything runs ALOT smoother and sounds happier. I am now wondering what I should set the waistgate at, or max boost I should have. I am also wondering if that much timing advance was hurting my fuel economy?

Advanced timing lowers egts, increases cylinder pressure, and helps high end hp at the expense of low end power.

Ok, Thanks for the info. I was aware of what advanced timong does. I was wondering if my fuel mileage was lowered by it. It seemed to run really well around 24-2500 RPM, but around 2000 it just didn't feel good. were as before this little incedent happened with the timing it ran really well at 1700-2000 rpm. Kinda self explanitory though, obviously the timing was the culprit because it was way over advanced. Now I just need to know what max boost I should run to keep my HG intact and my EGTs down. Thanks Oo.
