Super chip problem ?

I just had a guy contact me about a problem that has showed up with the superchip programmer. He has spent thousands trying to fix what he is now thinking was caused by the super. While traveling at 55-65 at steady speed while driving it acts like a shudder or a slight miss it goes away if he coasts and when he accelerates. He has since had a BD tc vb and pressure lock. had drivelines checked had vp44 and transfer pump swapped had ecm swapped with another used one"who knows,it may have had a super loaded into its past also" it acted the same,It now has original back in, injectors swapped fuel pressure monitered and still not any closer to finding the problem. This has all been done at a very reputable performance diesel shop they have been running it on the dyno there trying to figure it out and all there are at a loss. They contacted super and they said they haven't heard of a problem like it before either.

I am thinking maybe he could try to overwrite the superchip programming left behind with a smarty and see if this will help him. He took the super to stock and I think it left its trace behind with its glitch.

Has anyone else ever had a problem like this?

The smarty erases the stock software that came with the truck from my understanding and loads the most recent program available for the second gens. If I rember corectly, but I would talk to Bob Wagner. So in theory it should correct any problems that were left behind. In theory... ... ... ... ... ...

My 02 has the Super Chips on it and I get a shudder just after leaving a stop. I just figured it was drive line related since I have a SkyJacker lift..... Never tried changing the program b/c the previous owner won't give me the hand held. I am just getting ready to use a SMARTY to clean it out, hopefully soon and I'll let you know if it changes any thing.

This is an 02 also and the shop said it is around 30 hp short of what he usually sees on the dyno for that type of setup also.

Billvo, I would have him try swapping out the APPS first. It may be getting a bad signal if it does it in a certain spot only. They usually get a dead spot between 55 and 65 if the truck is used at highway speeds frequently. Mine never completely crap out but just get dead spots and do like you describe. Hope this helps, Chris

You can hook a scanner up and go for a test drive to see what the voltage does to it when you are cruising. If it jumps alot when it cuts out then its the APPS.

There is a good article on page 40... Issue 54 of TDR mag about cleaning/lubricating the APPS... ... check it out before spending $395.

Is he still running the stock lift pump, I know he changed it out but did he go to another stock pump, if so might check the fuel pressure at the upper speeds. I had the same trouble, went to Fass and fixed the problem.

It wound up being a ground wiring problem. they had removed and cleaned all of them but it didn't help so they spliced into all the ground wires on passenger side of engine compartment and ran double grounds and that is what fixed it.
