I was over at Cummins Northwest in Portland and asked one of the techs about what he has seen on high mileage of the 5. 9. He told me that he routinely sees a half dozen 3500's that run trailers from Portland to Salt Lake, then to Phoenix, to La then Back to Portland. He says that 3 of them have over 850,000 and one is over 900,000. I asked him what they had done - and they said nothing to the motor yet - and they were running Cummins Blue! Now I'm not sure what we can expect, but these rigs are run long and hard - which is very good for mileage. What's the actual mileage you have seen on a truck? I can't verify these stories - so let's only place mileage we're sure is accurate?

Can't report on any high milers, but running long and hard is actually easier on the motor than local low milers. Maybe dino oil is not so bad, eh?

When I was looking for my truck, I ran across a guy that had a 12 valve with 347,000 miles on it. He said it didn't burn any oil and still ran fine. He also wanted top dollar for it.

Well if you're a recent member,there was a TDR mag from a year to year and a half ago that had an article in it written by Joe Donnely that has a '94 2500/automatic that has 973,000 miles on it. In the pictures the truck was very clean.

Yup, I'm really new to TDR. AND am very glad I found it. I've learned a great deal in the last month.

My main reason for buying the Cummins was the life expectancy. The other benefits are just icing on the cake. The wife said "this is your last truck" And it could possibly be since its not a daily driver. Its good to hear that they DO run almost forever.

Mike - did the article indicate what engine work he had done?

Hey Maxwedge

should we make up some chevy and ford stickers so when we wup up on one we can put a little sticker on the side of our trucks and compare the qty of stickers at the next get together although this could get a little hairy unless we mounted cameras for confirmed kills :D :D :D

Diesel Dan

Great idea!!:D Years ago Direct Connection--(Mopar Performance) used to offer decals of doors with the words "Chevy" & "Ford" on them so when you busted on street racing you could put them on you fender:D

Hey, just go on the honor system.

5=Ace

10=Double Ace

15=Triple Ace

Put this over on the 6. 5 Chevy page & watch them sqeal!!!!:p
