Passed one yesterday. It was a CC, so I assume it came with a 6. 7.

I passed it on the right, he was a little slow in the left lane(about 65-70).

At first I thought the regen must have started. Then it went away, then it smoked again, a thick cloud, far worse than any of the old "dirty" diesels I have ever seen. It was out of sight after about one minute, smoking like he was pulling a sled. (Ok, a little less, but it seemed like every time he would accelerate about 1 mph, a cloud of smoke. When he let up on the throttle, no smoke)

Even if it was regenning, why so much smoke, and for so long? How could the EPA have approved something like that? Can you imagine a picture on front page of a new "clean diesel" with a cloud of smoke out the tailpipe?

Or was the particle filter gutted?

Only CAI from S&B Filters that I'm aware of.

betterthanstock: sounds like it was either gutted or something seriously wrong with the truck. I can't imagine that plume of smoke would be from a regen.

Brad

When mine was doing it the smoke was a blue-grey smoke, quite a bit of it. Since I've been running mostly ULSD I haven't noticed it in a long time. There still isn't ULSD available except at a few small stations in my area. Note, anyone going down hwy 59 south of Houston towards Victoria and on 59 or 77 south from there, ULSD is very hard to find. It is at NONE of the truck stops after Rosenburg that I have found.

A station in Edna had a screw-up. The delivery driver mixed gasoline with the ULSD in the stations tank. So far, one Dodge and two Chev, (the new ones) have been effected. Repairs on the Dodge, $13k. Had to replace the CP3 pump and all injectors plus some other things, that plus the labor, $13k. The Chev. had to replace the same things, but with rebuilt CP3 pumps, Dodge doesn't have any rebuilt pumps at this time. Said the cost on the Chev. was about $9k. I kinda believe some delivery driver lost his job.

The dealer had a sample of the fuel in a jar, sure am glad I didn't get any of that stuff.

One question, are you sure it was a cab and chassis model? Is it possible it was a pickup model with the bed removed and a flatbed put on it? There are a lot of them around. The 2006 and 2007 models are identical from the outside.
