Nowel's Friends.....

Did anyone happen to see the “Super Truck” races on the TV yesterday, 11/30? Sorry, I don’t remember the channel. Apparently this was filmed over the summer in Wisconsin. This association (can’t remember the name or acronym) is trying to promote 10,000lb diesel truck racing in the States. The course they were running on is the same as the formula 1 race cars. According to the announcer the sport has really taken off in Europe. The announcers didn’t go into much detail on the trucks other than they were running Detroit Diesel 60 series engines producing 1000hp / 2500lbs torque. :--) They mentioned a five-speed transmission, a 17” rear axle, water-cooled brakes, & custom frames.

So has anyone seen this kind of racing in person? Is anyone familiar with the Detroit 60 series engine? Is it a inline six? How many cubic inches? What is being done to these engines to get 1000hp? Also, I’d like to find out more about these transmissions.

The DD 60 Series is a straight six and the come in various displacements. A friend has an 11 Liter and a 14 Liter, I'm sure of the others variations.....

Ask & you shall receive!

I knew someone on the TDR must have seen it. Thanks for the link & info folks. Now hopefully they will start running Cummins:D .

Thanks Again,

Doug

JStull,

All I saw was four trucks. Kinda disappointing:confused: . Guess it's still something new in the US. They are going to need to get more trucks & a lot more smoke :D to make it successful.

it was only an demo race to promote intrest for next year

as for smoke not a chance , they're lookin for a no snoke truck

as to promote "THE NEW AGE OF DIESEL TRUCKS " w/ no smoke

after seeing them race I couldn't log in fast enough

to get info on runnin a truck for next year

In the newest issue of Truck Trends (jan/feb 04) they have a (short) 3 page article on the STRANA. It says that the trucks are powered by Cat 11. 1-liter sixes and backed by a ZF manumatic 5 speed trans. The trucks have fully independant front suspension instead of solid axles. it also mentions that a majority of the parts are off the shelf parts and that they hold up very well under race conditions. on their website is says that they're runnin' Detroit's !?Just a bit o' info for those who care.
