Anyone out there using a Superchips micro tuner? They appear to be cheaper than the other boxes that are out there, and can also read codes and re-calibrate the speedo for larger tires/ different gears. Anyone had any major problems with these? Would like to get some feedback before I throw my money down.

I was just about to ask the same question until I found this post in the search. It seem not many TDR people are using these. A PSD owner at work has had one for a year now and loves it..... Just wondering why it has not caught on with the CTD people.

Toolman,

Where have you been reading this? From everything I've seen, the gains appear to be the same as an Edge EZ. Just curious, since I haven't seen much feedback either way. They have a 30-day moneyback guarantee, maybe I'll just have to get one and try it.

If I remember it was on Possibly the DTR where a guy dynoed it before and after and was not thrilled at all. I will find the post (its in one of theese boards  )

I don't know how to insert a link but this is what I wrote awhile back in "Product Accessories" forum.

I installed the "HI-PERF" program, reset the tire size and checked for codes.

The truck gets up and moves considerably quicker.

Boost hits 20# quick. (no boost fooler)

EGT's will hit 1300* quick on WOT runs in 6th gear.

Speedo correction worked great! (used GPS to verify)

I feel like the power is a little slower coming on than with the EZ that I tried at one time. But ends strong.

I just put one of theese on my 99 ctd w/ A. D. D. mod and 4 inch turbo back no muff or cat. And noticed significant increase in response and the ol smoke. It also builds boost quicker all the way to 30psi

Could someone respond to the speedo calibration. I had heard that it did not work on the diesels. Does the recalibration for different tire size work or dosen't it? I thought I read it on super chips web site that it does not work on the dodge diesel.

speedo calibration

The speed calibration does work on diesels, I was told that it wouldn't by a Super Chip tech, But I'm here to tell you it most definely does work. I have the tuning on the lowest setting and my boost is 21 where before I could only get it to 18. A lot more pep at high rpm. I heard they may do an up grade in November, I e-mailed superchip and they said if they do the up grade I could recieve it at no charge.

Peter,

Thanks for clearing that up. Go figure, a company rep doesn't even know what it's product does, man has that happened to me more than once!

Desperately in need of speedo calibration and then I also get more power and engine diagnostics to boot, cann't go wrong on that deal!!

Ron

no boost fooler

If you add the $100 - $150 for a boost fooler the price is equivalent to an Edge EZ.

If you install larger injectors along with this programmer I am going to assume you will need a boost fooler or you will code which decreases the fuel which will decrease the performance.

This is probably the reason they have not caught on.

FYI, I just bought the Superchips max micro tuner 3705. $290. 00 including shipping. I haven't seen the EZ priced lower then $489. 00. The 3705 Superchips tuner is just for the 981/2 to 02 diesels. The tire calibrater does work. Superchips says this Tuner will not tax the transmission past it's stock limit. (Hope this is true) Everything I've read on the TDR forums says not to use the EZ (or any box) w/ Auto trans w/out beefin' it up first. The Superchips Tuner was a cost effective BOMB for my stock truck:p and I've been very impressed with it so far. Just my 2 cents worth. Mtnhico

Does it Work

Just bought one.

Arrived by UPS 2day in 4 days.

Went out last night to program it in.

Will not work. Error code Vin# locked.

Called Superchips, they said it should not have been sent out.

Needs to be coded for my Vin# & PCM#

Just sent back today. @ $15 S&H each way they cant be making much money on this thing. Total $45

Will have to wait until I get it back to let you know if it works.

Anybody dynoed one yet?

I am running the edge and superchip. I've only been running it for a couple days, but I don't see any real big gains. Seat-o-pants dyno says maybe a little, but not much.

I have not run the superchip seperate from the edge. I didn't want to have to unhook my j-hook on my wastegate. I did have to unhook the edge and reconnect my map sensor to stock, while doing the programming. It sets the 'Low Map Voltage' if you don't.

If I didn't want the tire adustment feature, I'd probably send it back. If you already have an edge, I don't think the power gain( if any) is worth the money for adding the superchip.

Guys I can't find the thread. It seems JStemann's got the same deal. If the superchip is stacked you will see marginal gains. I wish I could find that thread for ya. :( But come to think of it that was the issue in that thread.

Origionaly said by Superchips then by James2000

Superchips says this Tuner will not tax the transmission past it's stock limit

Any mods will. Heck if a box rock stock bone stock truck can snap an input shaft  Just ask Banks about making claims. Things like that give the consumer a false sense of security. If that trans was meant to handle 70 more horse in an unmodified condition then the cummins in our trucks would not be detuned with all the sfegards that it has now.

Not rippin' just reminding thats all.
