I have a 1999 Dodge 3500 Deisel Auotmatic Transmission. I am experiencing a surge when it shifts into overdrive. I was told by my previous dodge dealership to wrap the wires in aluminum foil. This seemed to work very well for awhile, but I am experiencing some of the shifting problem now, not as much as without the wire being wrapped. If there is anyone who can help me with this situation, I would appreciate it. I was told this is a computer problem.

When I had my DTT auto installed, the installer James Northum near Dallas, said to wrap the ground wire that comes from out of the loom on top of the altenator going to the passenger side battery with aluminum foil and then wrap with black tape. It stopped my bad idle problems and any surging that I had before. Granted he also put isolators on the wires that go to the transmission. It idles great and no hunting for gears since I have done this, its been two months now.

Thank you - I appreciate your response on this... I've wrapped the wire coming off the

starter and the one going over to the battery - this seemed to stop the problem. But

I will also go ahead and wrap the ground wire that you spoke of. Keep me informed as

to how yours does, and I will do the the same for you. I also cleaned the battery post

real good.

One other thing that I noticed a couple of times. As one of the batteries would go bad, it would start the hunting in and out of OD. I always changed both when one of them went bad. Went to Red top Optima's this time around. You won't have to clean the posts anymore, it is a dry cell type battery. There is no acid to leak out and attack your connections.

This is something a lot of people overlook. You might think your truck starts fairly easily, but if one of your batteries is not up to par, most often the passenger side battery, it can cause the TC to lock and unlock frequently between 40 and 50 mph. A bad ground on the battery can also cause this as well as throwing a P0122 code.

Some other solutions in addition to wrapping the wires in foil are to purchase a noise filter by DTT (part number KW5535), resetting/cleaning the APPS as well as checking it for worn contacts and checking the trans output shaft speed sensor.
