I just got done putting in a 12 valve in place of a 24 valve ( the transplant was easy and everything works ) The motor is out of a 97 manual truck but the 215 pump was removed and in stalled onto a 98 12 valve in another truck. I never got around to taking off the 215 pump before I sold the 98. Now I am left putting the 98 auto pump on the 215 motor to break it in. I put it all together and its up and running but have a surge or say a bucking concern that is hard to get stoped unless you remove your foot of the pedal or more tha 1/2 on the throttle. It is real touchy either you have to be off the pedal or when shifting you have to be over 1/2 throttle for it not to happen. Before I put the pump on I put the Mac travel plug on it and a number 10 plate but little afc mods. The timing is set to 16. 5 also. The injectors are 60 over stock at this time also. The throttle is just so touchy at light throttle

It sounds like your miising or have a very weak throttle likange spring.

After I had the throttle cable recall done my spring (large one) fell off, luckly it didn't fall out of the engine bay. I put back on put it fell off again my mechanic tied it on the second time.

With the spring off the throttle response was great but goin over bumbs it would buck I would have to take my foot off the go pedal. (This happened when lite pressure on go pedal).

I believe in 97/98 they use a double spring.
