Just got back from taking the plunge & getting my DTT vb & tc installed #ad
. Let me tell ya ,you guys that are on the fence about getting this done ,dont wait its worth every penny . What a feeling to just put her into gear & start moving then use a fraction of the throttle to get the power to the ground. Well must get some shut eye so i can rise early to get another grin #ad

My warrenty is up in 5/03 and I will have the upgrades April 20th

Why wait? Get the Best now. Time is to short to put up with less than the BEST!
 
my warranty just started not long ago,,only 8,000 miles on the thing and a powermax3 and dtt's v/b & t/c on the way. should i wait till the warranty is up? NO WAY!!!!!!

With the transmission, it seems the longer the factory stuff is in, the more damage that is done

I have 80,000 mls left on my warranty,I couldnt wait,glad i didnt!The way I look at it is its extending the life of the transmission because of the greater efficiency which equates to cooler running temps therefore less likelyhood of transmission failure. Pay now or pay later & its one less reason to take the truck back to the dealer.

Did you have 'Kustom Truck' in Yuba City install your DTT V/B & TC?
I had an appointment for Herb to install my DTT V/B last Saturday but they opened so late, I just did it myself. The difference in power is night and day! Now I can't wait to get Bill K. 's TC. Then I'm going to go to DD3's. , and a Hot PE.
What TC did you install, a 91%, 93% or?

I had the the 91% tc installed which has good firm shifts ,I love it.
Bob ,yes Kustom Truck did the install ,i,d suggest if you want him to do your tc install,give him plenty of notice as he always seems to have 2 weeks work scheduled.

Okay, I'm convinced to install as soon as possible regardless of the warranty expiration date. Next question...

When making the change to both the VB & TC at the same time, which type fluid are you suggesting? What about using Lube-gruard? Good idea?

Bill reccomends running it for 500mls with the new tc then change the oil & filter again . At this point i,m gonna switch to synthetic when i will also install my Mag-Hytec pan. . Ian

Hey guys, How many times did you have to reopen the transmission to get it tuned in properly? My understanding of the VB install is you have to do this until you get it where you want the shift feel your after. Did you have to put the resistor in the transmission control circuit? Curious cause mine is acting up now and surgery is imminent! YEAH! Prognosis is lead foot in bomber bad news for weak transmission.

Way to go..... Thats how DC should have made the trans to begin with... . I'll bet with your "stock" engine it pulls like crazy... . Got my replacement VB from Bill K, I'll try to put it in before the "Road Trip", ... Might have another goodie before than that you might want to try for the trip down #ad

When you order the vb you,ll tell them what mods you have & it will be adjusted accordingly before you getit,at least thats my understanding of it,my shift points were good the first time round. The only part you have to change within the valve body is the governor solenoid which comes off the original vb. The resistor change is installed on the orange wire coming from the pcm located on the passenger side firewall. The instructions you get are excellent.

Dave, the extended warranty on my '98. 5 Ram is 5/100,000 (that's 26 more months or 48. 5k more miles. . NOW)... I had my first transmission modifications at 31k/4-2000 (BD) and my second at 45k/1-2001 (DTT)... in both cases it was because I wanted a better functioning, more reliable transmission. I got that with the BD enhancement, the DTT enhancement made the system even better, providing MUCH better transfer of power when in fluid coupling. My DTT upgrade made my Ram really fun to drive!

Dave, only you can decide if upgrading now is best for you and your Ram. Me, if I hadn't went with the DTT upgrades in January my '98. 5 Sport Ram WOULD HAVE been trade bait... ask several of my close NW BOMBer friends.

Same goes for power upgrades... there was no way in He!! I was going to wait until I cleared 100K prior to making power upgrades! By then I would have become extremely bored with it and would've sold it.

Just saw your last post Dave. I had Bill refill my transmission with the Amsoil Universal synthetic ATF+4 that I supplied (replacing the Red Line synthetic ATF+3 I had added during the BD upgrade). I have since purchased more (Amsoil Universal ATF+4) so I can be ready to change it out (per Bill Kondolay's recommendation) as soon as I receive my new Mag-Hytec Double Deep transmission pan (I believe it was shipped this last Friday). If I were you I would strongly consider the use of a good synthetic ATF in your Ram.

Lubeguard? I would progressively add several ounces at a time (over a period of days) to just eliminate any TCC shuddering you may have.
