Hang in there...

Steve -

Hang in there. It's got to be a big PITA for you, but a 3 week wait may be better than the possible side effects that may have resulted doing the operation with your blood count the way it was. Better safe than sorry. BTW, things have not gone the way I had planned them to. I'm still working for the same company I was when I came out to your house, so I'll be in MI. for maybe up to a couple more weeks (busy as heck, but still here). Let me know if there's anything I can do to help you out. I'm sure I can get sick (cough, cough) again. :D Good luck!

a possible help.....

Steve, a possible question for your surgeon based upon the following:

"Physicians can also help their patients to form more red cells. How? By giving them iron-containing preparations (into muscles or veins), which can aid the body in making red cells three to four times faster than normal. Recently another help has become available. Your kidneys produce a hormone called erythropoietin (EPO), which stimulates bone marrow to form red cells. Now synthetic (recombinant) EPO is available. Doctors may give this to some anemic patients, thus helping them to form replacement red cells very quickly. "

hang in there, we're all pulling for you... ... .

Steve,

Wishing you the best during this difficult time, especially during the holidays. I can only imagine the pain and discomfort you are living with. To get so close to having the surgery, and then having it postponed, must have been really heartbreaking.

Although I don't have back problems, I do know what it's like to live with joint pain. I was just at the ortho surgeon today discussing options for my left foot, which has several joints that are fusing together on their own, and arthritis has set in. When I overexert using that foot, the pain is overwhelming. Although fusion surgery (complete with screws) is an option, we decided against it for now. I'm only 34, and I don't want to risk wearing out the surrounding joints any sooner than necessary. I'm going to live with the pain until I can't stand it anymore, and then have the surgery.

Hang in there, Steve. Just think of how much better you will feel once this is over. Remember, the TDR is full of super-nice people who are pulling for you all the way!!!
