Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) Surging and stalling

I have a friend with a 2001 that will at times surge at idle and at other times after pulling a trailer he can let off the throttle and it will fall below idle and occasionally die. we have already changed the lift pump. The check engine light has not come on.

What codes does it have, what is his fuel psi running at and what mods has he done. Jake

Hey Jake , He has no mods, the fuel press. is 14# at idle and 11# at wot. Have not checked codes because the check engine light has not come on.

Cycle the key on off on off on and see if it has any codes. They will show where the milage shows. Fuel PSI sounds good. I had a similar problem with the exhaust brake killing the engine if I left it on during a shift, but only once in a while. I cleaned and tightened all my ground connections and put dielectric grease in all the factory plugs and solved all my problems. Is there any chance he got some fuel with water in it? Jake

No codes (checked with cummins scanner)and no water in fuel. Might try cleaning the grounds though. Thanks. .
