Surp belt jumping off or getting eaten 05 5.9

FYI; Two weeks ago I posted a problem that my serp belt was jumping off on shut down or start up. Since it happened three times and the belt was eaten twice, I insisted the dealer get to the bottom of it. They replaced the alternator pulley with an updated one siting TSB 09-004-06. I believe the part # is 5183490AA. I was fixed under my extended service contract. Hope it works.

Sounds more like a defective tensioner, has it been checked?

I had the same problem on my '91. 5 W-250 &, like "Imills" said, it was the belt tensioner pulley.

Or the routing of the serpentine belt isn't according to the diagram under the hood.

check the tensioner, and make sure its tight, 13 mm, and there is also a alignment dowel, make sure thats in its home, too

I changed the alternator pulley also for the same reasons. Supposedly the sudden stop when turning the truck off can make the belt jump a groove. The over running/clutch pulley is supposed to eliminate this. Been on for 5k miles with no issues. Seems to be working being I couldn't go 3k miles without eating a rib off of the belt.

i had my belt jump half off the ps pully. The belt was frayed on the outer edge. I replaced it with a new one. What a bi*** to replace by the way. I have not had my new belt do that. I was going to get the pully tsb done but i have not done it yet.

I have one better; for the last 6 months, I have a belt that is squealing most of the time while the engine is hot and really gets loud when the A/C clutch kicks in. I had a diesel mechanic take a look at the pulleys and the devices which it drives and all are turning freely with no bearing noise. The gates belt was new only a couple of months before the squealing started. My 98' 24V has about 210K on the ticker, has anyone run into this before and what was the fix? Thanks Paul

Don't want to hijack this forum but... when are your guys changing your serp belts? I've heard 50k or dont till you have a prob which is what ive always subscribed to... thanks

That is what is strange, I just replaced the belt with a Gates about 2 months prior to the squealing?????
