My 2014 was pretty good at first, 17-19 mpg going to work , 12-13 towing 9000 lb trailer. Then came the recalls, trans failed had to be towed, etc. now down to 14mpg 15 if I really nurse it, dead pedal still the same. Still 12-13 towing though ! I hope it doesn't continue to get worse with more recalls and miles.
Hope yours is better than mine! Now at 25100 on the odometer.

I don't know if the recalls had anything to do with it, but I too have seen a decrease in my mileage, its been mostly since the SCR replacement, and new tires, they were both at about the same time. Towing has been about the same.

I also had a 2003 19-20 was common...I now have a 2018 with only 1200 miles on the clock the meter says 18 on the 1st tank...20 mpg on the 2nd tank...3rd tank is at 21 mpg ...this is the best truck ever...
Your experience with the two trucks seems much the same as what I’ve seen. I miss the old truck in some ways, but the new one is more comfortable and it’s hauling and tow capacities make it a beast.

After 15 years of driving a 2003 Dodge 3500 with the 5.9 H.O., I just didn’t think it could get any better. I loved the old truck and was convinced the new trucks got horrible MPG. Nothing could be further from the truth.

My new Ram now has about 1800 miles, definitely not broken in. yet it produces very impressive mileage on the highway. On a recent road trip of approximately 380 miles I observed 21.8 mpg with the cruise control set @ 71 mph. An actual fill up at the pump, hand calculated the mileage at 21.756 mpg. I was surprised that the dash display of mpg was so close to my hand calculation.

Now I’m curious as to what a broken-in Cummins at a slower speed might produce.

Wish these new trucks were a little less expensive. This just might be the last new truck I buy.
same boat , both unloaded the 2017 mpg's beats the 03 maybe its because the 03 6sd manual mostly stock ran about 2000rpms @ 70mph the 2017 auto , about 1600rpms.

2014 3500 373 gears 212000 miles empty 19 to 21 mpg all the time highway empty, 13.5 pulling 12500 lb trailer, really like this truck

Your experience is very similar to mine with my 2015 3500. I am amazed sometimes!
