I understand the theory behind the TAG, but have some questions. First, how much surface area does the honeycomb take up, and does it actually reduce air flow? EDIT-I found the answer to this in an earlier post. Lots of math!

Other question is a little longer.

I'm thinking that if air was being shoved into the turbo, it would be pretty squirrley, but if it is being sucked into the turbo (which it is), wouldn't it be pretty stable? Kind of like trying to push a rope into a hole as opposed to pulling it through the hole. If there was a Turbo Rope Guide, you could push it in more easily, as it wouldn't wad up. However if you're pulling it, you don't need a guide.

Am I over simplifying this? Bottom line, do these things work? I'm close to saying yes because they are recommended by John Holmes, but I'm having a hard time wrapping my feeble brain around the matter!

I just picked up the cool blue hose,TagIII and air box kit fom Carson Dodge to install on my 05. I did not get the muffler delete pipe as I have a MBRP muffler on my truck. I hope to get it all on the truck next week if it warms up. My garage is just too cold right now. I will let you know what I think when done. "Ol" John has not steered me wrong yet and he likes this set up.

In my '05 the spool-up difference is noticeable. I haven't towed with it in yet. Bottom line, if you don't like it, money back, no questions asked.

I got the cool blue hose and made my own box. Now I can at least hear the turbo and the filter minder doesn't suck 1/3 down on empty full throttle runs.

I am running the AFE intake and torque tube. Will the TAG III work with the torque tube?? If it does, I need to find a silencer ring and clip as well being that mine was missing when I bought the truck used. I have an 03 HO.

Thanks

Mark

Did you remove the silencer ring on the turbo. Not sure if I want to do it or not after reading all the pro and con on here. John holmes said they don't and he states that other then noise reduction it does nothing.

I have heard the TagIII might quiet the CB some, let us know how loud it is and what air box kit did they sell you?

I did take it out before the other stuff. Didn't make a noticable difference. If I put it back now, I don't know if that would make a diff either.

I got the PSM (Performance Systems Manufacturing) air box kit. One can modify the stock airbox cheaper with parts from Home depot or lowes but this installs nice and from what I have heard works well. Some claim to get 2-300 drop in egt's when pulling heavy in the mountains like where I am. Carson Dodge gives a 10% discount on the price when you get all three items like I did. They also install a muffler delete pipe to complete this intake/exhaust mod. I already have a MBRP muffler so I did not get that.

Keep in mind the air traveling to the turbo inlet has had a torturous trip through the air filter and bends and obstructions of the intake tubing by the time it gets to the compressor wheel even though it is being pulled as you pointed out. Best thing to do to convince yourself one way or the other is simply to try it.

Well it got warm enough for me to get the PSM cool air kit ,cool blue hose and Tag111 on the truck. I kept the silencer ring in as John Holmes said it really does not help any to remove it. Drove it about 20 miles after the install and am pleased at the results so far. Turbo responds much better, there is no lag feeling anymore. Egt's dropped 50 more degrees at highway speed no load on truck yet. Cool down to 300 at idle is much faster and the truck for some reason seems to idle better now. Time will tell if ther are any mileage increases and it will be spring before I get a trailer behind it to see how my egt's do. As far as sound I can hear the turbo sing now but it is not very loud with the windows up in this 30 degree weather. I rolled down the passenger side window for a second or two and it sounds nice outside the truck-just the way I like it now.

TAGs etc

Just wanted to let you guys know who I am. I recently purchased Diesel Power Products from Car_Nut57, who invented the Turbo Air Guide. I intend to keep up the level of service that he established with you guys. In addition to the TAG we also sell the PSM, Cool Hose and replacement silencer rings for those of you who took them out and lost them.

It was dyno'd something like 200 post's back wasn't it?

Yes, every dyno test I've read of shows the TAG makes less power but some guys feel it gives them better low end. Others dont think it makes any difference at all.

Will this post ever die?:-laf

TAG-III in TT

If the Torque Tube is the hard plastic version, it may not fit. The interior of the tube is hard, irregular and often smaller than the TAG-III exterior. Some have trimmed the interior surface or heated and streched the tube to make it fit. As for the silencer ring, it does not have to be in place to use the TAG-III.

Tag suggestions

What # is the new TAG? I have an 03 HO w/6 speed,Magna Flow 4" exh. , Banks High Ram intake, Amsoil filter in stock air box w/extra air flow cut into the front of the box. If I would install a Tag, would I be better off to eliminate the plastic factory silencer tube? The choices would be either a Cool Blue hose, or the eliminator tube from Geno's. If this is done what about turbo noise? My goal is to gain a little MPG, empty & towing without using a chip. Thank You for any suggestions.

The "New" TAG is the TAG III and has been around for about 4 years now. It has a velocity stack on it that funnels air directly into the compressor wheel. If you keep the stock intake tube, you will at least have to trim back the fins on the plastic silencer in the tube. The Cool Hose is a completely smooth bore intake hose which by itself will allow you to hear more turbo noise. Putting the TAG III in it will quiet it back down.
