They seem to believe in a similar device down-under. At least the manufacturer's ad believes in it! Found this in "4x4 Australia Magazine" http://www.hicloneqld.com/

"Hiclone is a simple maintenance-free device, which fits inside the air filter housing of a carburettor or in the air induction hose on EFI, turbo, LPG or diesel engines. Hiclone has no moving parts and is made from stainless steel, so it will last a lifetime. Hiclone has an unconditional money back guarantee.

Hiclone simply changes the flow of air through the air induction system. Hiclones special fins create a swirling effect, this optimises flow through the air intake system and improves fuel-air mixing to allow near-complete combustion. Just think of how nature produces its most efficient flow rates, invert a bottle or empty the sink and nature will show you how Hiclone works.

... we generally gain between 10 to 20% better fuel efficiency, but with two Hiclones we generally gain over 20%%

We have found that with one Hiclone we generally gain between 10 to 20 per cent better fuel efficiency, but with two Hiclones we generally gain over 20 per cent fuel efficiency. A pre-turbo Hiclone will bring the turbo on up to 600 rpm earlier.

Elsewhere in their liteature they say that installing one post turbo helps also. Hmmm. Smells like snake oil, seems like some wild claims.

This is a whole different principle from the TAG. The TAG straightens the incomming air into the compressor, this Hiclone swrils the air "as seen on TV" Billy Mays, shamwow, on and on.

"10 to 20 % and over better fuel efficiency" dream on.

The TAG on my truck netted me 5% increase in MPG, 22 MPG X 5% = 23 MPG :)

If this is true thats what I want. I am not interested in extra H/P or T/Q above what I allready have, 305 / 555.

Increasing fuel rail pressure will atomize the fuel better comming out of the injectors, but the drawback is a shorter life of the injectors, fuel rails, pump.

Thanks for the tip.

Hey Bob.

I finally installed that Banks 6 Gun on my truck along with a single stage gated boost controller.

I have been playing around with various settings and I REALLY like running with the Banks on setting #4 and an extra 8 pounds of boost dialed in.

This gave me MUCH better performance as well as an additional 3 MPG on the highway.

I usually cruise at 75 on the freeway on my trips.

At 75mph, the boost hovers around 10 psi (depending on the grade) and EGT's hover around 600 deg (depending on the grade).

These readings are taken on my trips up to Santa Cruz and include going up and over the Grapevine.

Here is some new news which might shake up some here. I will make a new post for this topic once I get a few more fillups and get a solid baseline for the results.

MARVEL MYSTERY OIL

Been around for many years, many fleet diesel trucks add the oil to the fuel.

My idea for starting to use this, ULSD, lower lubebristy than the tried and true diesel. I was reading on the bottle: "Cleans and keeps fuel pumps, injectors, nozzles, free from harmful fuel residues. Reduces upper cylinder wear. Promotes longer piston ring life. Retards souring of fuel and lubricates. " Also says: "increases fuel mileage"

Well I tried it out, used the recommend 4 oz. to each 10 gallons. In my case I added 12 oz to the 34 gallon fillup.

I picked up an instant . 29 MPG increase in the first tank, just by using the Marvel Mystery Oil in the fuel.

Jan 09

22. 35 MPG

23. 39 MPG

Feb 09

22. 38 MPG

22. 46 MPG

Average = 22. 65 MPG Winter Blend fuel

Apr 09

23. 44

Average = 23. 43 MPG Summer Blend Fuel

--------------------------------------------------------------

Apr 09 First numbers using the oil in the fuel

23. 72 A . 29 difference from the above average.

EDIT: . 29 MPG increase, times that by 34 gallons = 9. 86 miles per tank saved.

23. 72 mpg / $2. 30 cost of fuel = . 09696 cents of fuel per mile X 9. 86 = . 956 cents, BUT the oil added was $1. 30 per tank, so it is a negitive -. 34 cents each tank.

I am happy :) Something that is good for the engine and fuel system, picks up MPG.

TAG > 1 MPG +

MMO > . 29 MPG +

PS: the new one gallon bottle of MMO has a brand new disclamer on the lable:

"This diesel fuel additive does not comply with federal ultra-low sulfur content requirements for use in model year 2007 and newer diesel motor vehicles or model year 2011 and newer diesel noroad equipment engines. "

So lets say for now a solid 1/4 MPG increase, times that by 34 gallons @ 2. 30 a gallon = 8. 5 gallons saved, or $19. 72 saved minus the cost of the oil $1. 32 per serving = $18. 40 saved !

I am happy :) Something that is good for the engine and fuel system, picks up MPG but does not cost more than the savings saved.

TAG > 1 MPG +

MMO > . 25 MPG +

You may want to recheck your calculations. If you go from 23mpg to 23. 25mpg, you go 8. 5 miles further on 34 gallons which is a savings of . 366 gallons which is about a $0. 84 savings per tank not including the cost of the MMO. I'm going with a PDR camshaft and new tires to get better mileage even though I really do like the smell of MMO. Oo.

Your right, thanks for double checking my numbers, I used gallons instead of miles saved.

. 29 MPG increase x 34 gallons = 9. 86 miles saved per tank.

$2. 30 cost per gallon of fuel / 23. 72 MPG = . 09696 cents per mile.

. 09696 x 9. 86 = $. 956 cents savings BUT the cost of oil added per tank was $1. 30, so it is a negitive -. 34 cents per tank.

I will still use the oil for the benefit of the engine and fuel system.

Unless the MPG goes up in the upcomming fillups or I can buy the oil for less money or the cost of diesel goes, which it will, the numbers will change somewhat.
