Clock Spring went CRUNCH

Well, i went to the dealer this morning, they did the clock spring repair. I asked about the lift pump and they said my truck was not one of the ones listed in the TSB but they would order the pump and do it anyhow which i thought was really nice of them. I asked how long till they can do it and they said "A few weeks" that is NOT cool. I told them if they cant have it in 3 days, forget it. I dont want to keep driving my truck around with no fuel pressure. I ma supposed to call them back at noon and see how long it will be to do. Otherwise, i am calling Cummins. We shall see soon enough.

TTT

Hello, my name is Darren. (This is where you all say, "Hi Darren". ) And I have no fuel pressre.

I checked mine last night use a gasser EFI pressure gauge because the only one I had lost its liquid and so I hoped it was wrong, it wasn't. My pressure jumps up to 10psi at idle and then drops to about 3 psi. At 1000rpm the needle is just off of the zero stop and at 1500rpm its on it. I am assuming this is bad fuel pressure. I just tested standing still as I figured it would only get worse under a load. Am I doomed or what? Isn't the lift pump from Cummins supposed to be better than the one from DC?

Darren

Cummins Southern Plains shot me a price of $139. 08 and they didn't have it in stock but could have it the next day. Guess I'll be bombing the fuel system this weekend. May have to get me one of those big arse moparguy filters while I'm there too. Am I being too anal about my truck to buy a $140. 00 part to have to assume a prone position upon the engine room just to keep from having to leave it with a 5 screw dealer?

Darren

That is EXACLTY what i am doing Hyde. I would rather pay $140. 00 and do it myself then have those clowns crawling around my truck.

Thanks EM. I feel so much better now. I'm not a bad person for not wanting to go to the dealer. I guess I'll have to here before long that clockpring fixed as I'm getting tired of it dinging at me when I start the truck.

BAD GAUGE?

I finally tried to install my fuel pressure gauge and drilled out banjo bolts yesterday. I think I have a bad gauge - so Westac said. They are sending another NDA, so will hopefully know more later today. With the truck idling, the gauge would bounce from 0-15. When you moved one of the electrical connections it seemed to change the reading, but there was never any consistency. I don't know how often a bad gauge gets out, but I would have DC check pressure with their gauge setup. Ray

hehehehehehehe

more 1/2 inch pickup talk , to funny ... . guess i must be doing something wrong running 14. 38 in the quarter with a carter HP4601 in the stock location , off the stock wiring , with the stock pickup and lines , no banjo bolts though ( did something correct )on street tires and 5psi at WOT (over 100mph) with everything on ??????

but if you're bored with nothing to do then i say go for it . :D

ray t , your pressure flucuations may have to do with the placement of that sender , i'll guess on the input to the injection pump ? if so move it back to the output of the filter and see what it does .
