2nd Annual NoVA Meet & Greet 9/16/06

OK. If y'all agree on Blue Ridge Turbo Diesel Brigade, I have a concept sketched out. Potential blazoning for the shield: per fess, azure, vert with serpent all argent around turbo and wrenches gules and name "Blue Ridge Turbo Diesel Brigade" or. The shield can be traditional if y'all want to be considered 'combatants', or oval if non-combatants. Or I'll make the typical modern oval logo and a more traditional heraldic shield.

Here are the logo and the shield/patch. Yes, creating them, especially the shield, took more time (I had to learn how to do some of the things).

Do Google searches for "coat of arms" and "heraldry" to learn a bit about shield design

Y'all like?

Had to tweak them a little, make them more readable, easier on the eyes, and add a Latin motto.

Tug, Ger, send out the emails and call for a vote!

The motto is pert near all-encompassing, I think. :)

I'm still here. Just waiting for more comments on my eclectic artwork. :)

No one's said they hate the name or logos, so I guess Blue Ridge Turbo Diesel Brigade will be the name. And with the serpent on the shield, the 'Rattler' contingent should be satisfied.

So we have a name and logos ready to go. Now we need to attack the organizational details.

What kind of organization will it be? A club? An association? A corporation?

What will its charter be? Self-serving? Community benevolence? Dodge-only and exclude all other makes and models of diesel-powered vehicles?

Will it exist solely for social gatherings of members only? Will it involve attending and/or participating diesel motorsports events? Would it involve community events where diesel-power pickup trucks would be a big asset? Will it involve staging motorsports events (drag races, sled pulls, poker runs, et al) for charitable causes?

Will it have a traditional 'rigid' centrally-managed operation? Or will it have a main director/coordinator/secretary who manages the organization and its schedule, membership roster, records and communications?

Will events have to be accepted by a central committee and voted on by the membership? Or will events be organized by individual members to fit into the overall schedule after the general membership has weighed in with pros and cons?

Will the organization require a lot of work and effort from its members? Or will it be managed such that some work and effort is required now and again, with fun and commiseration being the standing goals?

Will we have only region-wide meetings? Or will we have local GTGs for commiseration, with a few region-wide meetings for all members to attend?

Will we leave this forum as the only communication channel? Or will we set up a regular time to meet in the TDR chat room generally for BSing, but sometimes for discussing pressing topics (which would involve the secretary posting the 'minutes' in this forum)?

We have these and more intangibles to ponder and imponderables to consider.

BTW, is anyone else heading down to the Redneck Nationals next Saturday in Albany, GA? Garmon, Stuckey and Morrison should be there, along with other drag racers... .

Thanks for the reply Neal and Phil I thought maybe you all had moved to

Florida are something since I had not seen anymore about the club. :-laf

Neal you sure address a lot of things pertaining to the club that needs to

be taken care of if we are to keep this going. I think we should meet again

even if for a short period of time and address these things and get the ball

rolling. If I can be of any help just yell.

I'm looking forward to our next mtg. , too (was forced by work to miss the last one). One more "winter" mtg. before mowing season starts would be nice. Y'all up for a March get-together? Do we have a formal leader to lead us, or should we just pick a date? How about a place in Floyd, that wonderful little town that's a hodge-podge of hippies, moonshiners, and old-time music lovers? Besides, kinda central to Roanoke, the NRV, and bit closer for the NC boys.

Speaking of the region, the Roanoke Times had an article about the Franklin County Board scrapping the idea of an airport down there. I guess some thought an airport would bring in high-paying businesses, and other doubted it. *I* think the, mmmm, average secretive Franklin County entrepreneurs would have switched from trucking their product out at night to flying it out at night. That probably isn't what the airport supporters had in mind, though. :D :D

Imagine the headline: "JUNE, 2010 - FRANKLIN COUNTY MUNICIPAL AIRPORT SURPASSES O'HARE INTERNATIONAL AS THE BUSIEST AIRPORT IN THE NATION!"

I have just sent the members email list to everyone that signed the book at the last meeting. Please forgive me if it is not too good. I never sent a mass mailing before.
