I couldn't find anything on this topic which is surprising.

Does anyone know what would be involved with a swap to the new six speed?

I test drove the new truck, and to be honest, the only thing I want is the transmission. I'm pretty sure an aftermarket exhaust brake could be put into the equation, and that would be one sweet truck.

Any info appreciated, and apologize if I'm not the first one to ask this.

I'm pretty sure the thing that would be most involved is a really big pile of cash!

Actually, Suncoast has it stated on their site that they offer an Allison conversion but I can only imagine the price. Someone said in the neighborhood of 10k but that sounds high.

Because the 68RE is still new I don't know that you would find any except a new one.

The hard part would be the controller. The Cummins controller is handling the 68RFE for 07. 5, but that is the 6. 7 so no way to retrofit the engine controller for the earlier trucks.

suncoast told me between 8k and 10k but when you look at that it is alot of money but you get what you pay for. i think if you go with the 5 speed allison it will be alil cheaper but not positive on that. Sure you can spend 3k to 6k on rebuilding the 48re but you will never get the smooth shifts and the extra gears you will with the allison. i am saving my money right now cant wait.

I guess that would depend on how and how much you intend to use it. If I bought a broke-transmission 03 and everything else was AJ squared away, an Ally in for 8 to 10 could be a good "investment" if I was going to a) run it forever, or b) put major miles on it on a continuous basis hauling hot-shot loads.

I see you can also get the Aisin 68.
