SmithMark, not to worried about MPG. The truck is a personal vehicle but it is registered to the company so I can write it off. Most miles are company related but I drive it home everyday and it it mine to maintain. I will stay with diesel and a big truck as long as I can. My John Deere gator is diesel and my lawn mower is also JD, a 3720 (also diesel). I love diesel. I will probably try at least one more.

AHarris, I am starting to think that maybe I have got a lemon. I love Dodge and will stay with Dodge. Even though I have had bad luck with this one I have not lost my faith in them or Cummins. Another bad one and I might consider getting a Hemi, my wife and I are on our second Durango with a Hemi and they have been great. After talking to the dealer and building them online I might be leaning towards a new one. Oo. Finding a good used one would be tough and I do not want to delete stuff on a 6. 7. I am going to do some more thinking but I know what my truck is worth and I think I could trade up to a new one for a reasonable amount. Dealer said they would be happy to take it in on trade. I might even get an auto so my wife would be happy. She couldn't shift a manual if her life depended on it. :-laf

I don't blame you--I don't like to mess with the factory stuff either. I wish you the best of luck whatever you decide. Prices have really gone up for the new RAMs with many commanding 40 grand at sales prices for 2010 models (near the end of the model year). Hard to beat a Cummins but there is nothing wrong with a Hemi--I know several people who have them and they love them! If I hadn't gotten the deal I did on my truck in 2007 I would probably be driving a hemi myself because I am a cheap skate and won't spend $40K on a truck. ;)

Is it possible to remove my 6. 7 and have a 5. 9 installed? Preferably one like I had in my '01. I have never been happy with how quiet the new engines are and in 45,000 miles I think my CEL has been on for about 38-40,000 miles. I have had 1 new clutch, several EGR valves, a couple turbos, and too many re-flashes to count. I love Dodge and will stay with Dodge and I think the old 5. 9 engines were far superior. I was told that the vehicle electronics would be incompatable with the 5. 9 engine. Is this true? Can anyone tell me if this can be done?

Thanks.
Back to your original question, yes. But it would still be illegal. If it were my truck and having the same issues you are having I would consider a DPF delete, at least when the EPA police catch up to me I could reinstall the DPF then remove it again after inspection. The 5. 9 replacement would cost a lot of money, only to have the State or Feds make you bring it back into compliance.

So it seems your only choice is a new vehicle, well thats not so bad, you will have a brand new 2011 that you ordered after the lemon law replaces your current truck free. :) You should see an attorney about your States Lemon law.

There's still some great deals out there on 2010s... I just grabbed one this weekend (I loved my previous truck but it didn't go so well with my back problems). Compared to the 3rd gen, the 4th gen truck is noticeably more refined--it is like driving a big car compared to the old truck. Since I had 37K totally trouble free miles with my previous truck, which was a first-year 6. 7, I have absolutely no reservations with this motor. I'm on my second, and probably not my last, 6. 7 Cummins. 10 years from now when they come out with the next generation Cummins, the 6. 7 will probably be as well loved as the legendary 5. 9 is now.
