I know this has been discussed in the 2nd gen forum many times, but I couldn't find much info about doing it in a 3rd gen.
I have a 2007 3500 5. 9 and wish I had a manual G56 in it. How hard would it be to do this? I know there are hard parts that need to converted (transmission, tcase, cross member, clutch, hydraulics, etc. ). What electronics would be required?
As a side note, is there anyone close to east TN that would like to try this type of swap?

Yeah, I figured that response might come up.
Before I go that route I just wanted to confirm with you guys what might be needed. It could just be trans, drive shafts, shifter, and hydraulics.
Anybody know for sure???

Haven't done the swap, but I was also thinking about it, as I hate not having control over the auto. I decided to sway away from the swap as it seemed like it would be easier to just have the transmission built, for around the same price. I think your best bet would be to find a junker and take every associated part, but goodluck with that one.

I haven't done it and have never heard of anyone who has but I would bet such a conversion would be the next thing to impossible with modern electronically controlled trucks. The days of swapping parts and making extensive modifications like the one you are interested in are probably a part of history now.

I believe the ECM, PCM, and chassis wiring harnesses are probably different not to mention transmission, linkage, speedometer attachment, driveshaft, engine transmission mounts, instrument cluster, floor pan, carpet, backup lights, and who knows how many odd sensors, relays, switches, wires, etc.

Sure, it can probably be done if you have identical trucks sitting side by side, one with 48RE, the other with G56, a huge limit on your credit card, professional level mechanical skills, unlimited time and patience, etc.

IMO it would be easier, quicker, and cheaper to trade trucks or even cheaper and simpler to learn to live with the truck you bought.

You might keep an eye out for a used 6spd on a dealer lot. I'm betting they would be willing to to an even trade to get an auto since I'm betting they would be able to move it faster.
