Anybody running 245/75-17'S?

Guys I am looking for some advice. I was thinking about swapping the 4. 10's for some 3. 73's but I have no idea what the cost would be and would there be enough of an increase in MPG's to justify the cost? The most I tow is 5,000 lbs, and I do it 3 days per week from customers house to customers house. No long distance highway stuff towing and no real hills to speak of. I think the 4. 10's are just more than I need.
 
I have a service business and do a lot of short trips with my 04. 5 QC LB 2W. I took out the 3. 73's and installed the 4. 10's cost was around $800. 00 and included parts but that was in 2005. after the change the mileage went up 1. 5 on average. IF YOU DO THIS MAKE SURE THAT YOU HAVE THE DEALER CHANGE THE GEAR RATIO IN THE ECM. The rear end shop wasn't set-up to do it. and you will need to know if the tone ring is the same or if it was changed. if changed you'll need to know the number to give them or they will charge you to service the diff. Oh my! get there hands dirty is extra. I would NOT change if I were you. Change the tire size to gain some more gear. Increase to at least a 295 to get close to a 3. 73. If you don't like it its easier to put your stockers back on. In case your wondering I have 4. 10's with 285's. If I remember that made about a 3. 89 Final. In your sig you have 315's on H2's This may be the problem. Have you had the speedometer changed to read the added tire travel. I had installed the rickson 19. 5's but the added unsprung weight hurt the mileage and brake wear. sorry i'm rambling on huh!
 
I didn't have my speedo changed. If I wanna know how fast I am really going I can check on my Juice w/ Attitude. I guess my odometer is showing less than I am going then huh? Right now I am actually running 33/12. 5/17 on the stock rim, I just didn't change the sig. I'm burning through them (they came on the truck when I got it used) when the need for some fun arraises now that winter is over and then I will go back to the 315's.



Anyone know what percent I should be adding to my odometer reading as a result of the 315 tires?

35" tires will get you to 3. 73 gearing w/ your 4. 10's. Also you will be going faster than what the speedo reads on your truck w/ bigger tires.
 
I am running 35's and have thought of switching to 4. 10's to get some RPM back.



I am only 1,700 RPM at 65-67MPH if that helps any of you.
 
my 04. 5 with 4. 10's and 285's on 17" rim with SmartyABS set at 31. 5 At 2000 rpm is 67mph. I still believe that if you want all systems to operate normally the ecm needs to have the correct info to perform correctly. I'm not informed on Edge procucts, do you just see the correct speed or is it talking to the ecm and correcting the signal for boost fuel rpm and speed for transmission shifts. we should just call me rambler! sorry! my speed confirmed by the California Hiway Patrol and the City of Turlock. Motorcycle traffic patrol with radar. DANG! HATE it when that happens.
 
I have 35" tires and went from the 3. 73 to 4. 11 ratio using gears from AAM. I got my acceleration back off the line and tow much better with heavy loads. The 4. 11's restored my truck's sense of powertrain balance. For all of you who want the best mileage, stick with your 3. 73 gears and go up to at least 33" tires or better yet 35's. It just seemed hard on the 48re to pull 12k lbs. with the stock gears.

The Edge displays the correct speed but does not communicate it to the truck in any manner that I am aware of.

You most likely have 3. 55s... there were only two choices for the Dana's... 3. 55 and 4. 10. If you had 4. 10s, you be closer to 2350RPM @ 70mph...
