Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) Swapping an Auto Engine out for a Manual one?

I'm going through an engine swap right now (not by choice) and have a question. I'm going to be getting a complete engine out of a salvage and I need to know if there is anything wrong with putting a 98. 5 Manual engine back in my 98. 5 Auto truck. The engine from the salvage will come with the ECM, Injector pump, etc. Should I move my auto ECM over? Or will the Manual ECM and engine work OK? I know the Manual has more rated power that year, so I guess that might be a plus.



Also if it's a manual engine, that means it has a flywheel instead of a flexplate. Can I just remove the flywheel and install my torque converter flex plate? Is there any balancing issues to worry about?



Does the Engine ECM have anything to do with the transmission electronics or are they controlled by the truck ECM?

Your probably gonna have to swap your auto stuff over to the new engine, but I might be interested in your manual ECM because I'm pulling an auto for a 6 speed. Let me know!

Well I got my salvage engine in and it is a 98. 5 Manual 24v Engine. So now I REALLY need to know if it's OK to use the Manual engine ECM that's on it or do I have to swap out the ECM off my Auto engine?



The engine is rated at 235 HP versus my 215 HP auto, is this due to the ECM differences or injectors or ????



Also what about taking the flywheel off and putting the torque convertor on? Is there any balancing issues?

you'll need to swap it out



sipher just did a 5sd to auto swap & had to do some funky stuff

to the trany to work , so I think you would need to swap it out for yours
