I have a club member that is not so net savvy asking what would be needed to swap his auto to a stick. I am posting on his behalf. He regrets not getting a standard and has too much into his truck to trade it in... .

When I did my 1990 it was simple. No computer. What is needed for a 2008?

Trans

clutch

clutch hydraulics

T case input shaft??

PCM??

Thanks!

IMO swapping an automatic for a manual tranmission in an '08 is probably too complicated and too expensive to consider. In a modern vehicle almost totally controlled by computers and manufacturer programming I have my doubts that it can be done.

If he could find someone with a nearly identical truck except for transmission and swap everything including ECM, PCM, and all the hardware it may be possible but then he might discover unknown mysterious VIN coding and security locking programs that would still make the exchange more difficult and more expensive than he could plan for.

I agree. That is along the lines of what we discussed. Not as easy when computers get involved. :(

Nick - He wants to push power and the G56 is not known for its strength with its aluminum case. :(

I would love to swap a NV5600 for my G56, but it has been flawless so far so I'll wait and see in a few years. :-laf

IMO. . and experience, an NV 5600 is not all that reliable either... plus with parts being of questionable quality and origin, why even bother ?:confused:If he is interested I have a core 5600 in the garage.

Yeah, I agree with MMeiers above. If I was going to consider such a retrofit I would consider the G-56 which is currently available and supported by parts, not the NV-5600 which I liked in an '01 Ram but is now out of production. Available parts are possibly sourced from our ChiComm friends.

SWEET!!! Oo.

Thanks! I will print that off!

I will pass on the info. I do agree. They have been known to have their issues. But still they have more case strength than the G56 from what I understand.

Wonder if a G56 gyts can be stuffed into a 5600... . ;):-laf

I agree on the case strength deal..... when my first one grenaded at 65 MPH pulling 31k #, everything stayed inside the case !!!
