I have found a 99 1500 that has the keyless entry in it installed at the factory wrecked. I'd like to pull the system out of it and put it in mine. 2000 3500. Both are SLTs. It's free and I like working on the truck so the labor is ok. I just don't know what all and where the parts are that I will need from the 99. Can anyone enlighten me please ?

Thanks to all for this forum. I did check the archives yet This question wasn't answered.

Go For It...

I haven’t done this but looking in the Service Manual, it looks like all you have to do is replace the Central Timer Module (CTM) located “under the drivers side end of the instrument panel, inboard of the instrument panel steering column opening. ” The CTM high-line and premium versions contain the logic for the Vehicle Theft Security System (VTSS). If you already have the electric door locks, you’re mostly there. I don’t know if the LED in the overhead console is there on all trucks, but with the alarm enabled, it flashes and is clearly visible. That particular CTM has the receiver and control logic for the Remote Keyless Entry and power lock. The VTSS uses the CCD data buss so most of the wiring (probably all of it would be my guess) should be in place. The component list looks like CTM, Door Jamb Switch, Door Lock Cylinder Switch, Headlamp Relay, Horn Relay, and Security Indicator Lamp. I would suggest looking in the Service Manual for the details. From just a quick look, it looks fairly easy if you have the electric door locks. After you do this, please let us know how it went. Wish you success.

p. s. Some have had problems with some CTM modules and radio interference. FYI.

pps - it looks like all the trucks have the power lock switches, it's just that without the keyless entry system, the locks are hardwired to the power lock motors. On the keyless versions, the switch us used to control "the battey feeds to the lock and unlock sense inputs of the high-line CTM. The CTM then relays the correct battry and ground feeds to the power lock motors. "

I think a service manual will improve your success rate on this one!

I find that the CTS module is located beside the left side of the ashtray. keyless truck has two connectors coming from body wiring harness whereas my truck only has the one (green) which the keyless also has but also has a white multipin connector. Off to the dealer says that I would have to remove and replace all of the main underdash wiring harness (Yikes). The dealer sells a Mopar accessory unit that is plug in to existing harness connections. According to the dealer info, you have to purchase a new harness in order to install the accessory unit but I've just got home am starting to reverse engineer the harness. It connects within the 7 pin connection located at the ignition switch. This splice harness has a pigtail for the keyless remote unit that has 6 wires. 1 small yellow=to control dome light ,1 black= ground. I have to pin out the other 4 (pink which has an inline 20 amp fuse, large yellow which I believe is the start circuit, dark blue, and a yellow with black strip. ) I think this harness can be made from the existing wiring without purchasing this harness. (75 bucks) after know what these pigtails do. There is another splice harness that goes into a connector within the driver's kick panel that has a pigtail to the keyless unit that contains five wires. This too can be made I think. I do have one manual for my 96 but I haven't got one for the 00. Never needed it yet. If I knew and yes the manual would be great what all that wiring within the extra white plug went to within the factory installed CTS keyless system then that too might be workable by making the extra wiring in addition to the existing harness rather than replacing the whole harness $400. Dealer was out of 2000 manuals so I'll have to wait. Thanks
