A while back I was getting around to installing some switches for some accessories and wanted originally to put a plate up in the OH console. At that time a few of you jumped out and said you had put them in the dash and even replaced the stock cup holder with a cover and switches. Anyone have any pics of how that turned out or any suggestions to it?

I have 3 switches mounted as shown in the photo, but there is room for 6 in that location, plus six on the other side of the steering column. Just an alternative you might want to cosider. Was very easy to do. Bought the switches at Radio Shack. If you want the colored covers, the swiches are just silver.

Put 'Em IN

Heck just stuff 'em IN the cupholder like the Selectable power switch I installed for my air compressor. (Drill a hole into the back side behind the hinge and fish wires thru the body inside the cupholder. any FLAT rocker will work for ya. )

DOH My pics are missing (Old link)

Here's what I did.

Here's what I did to my ash tray (since I don't smoke in my Ram).

I've got two others. One next to the ash tray for my Pac-Brake and one on the steering column for my propane.

That makes 14 total! When will it end!:D

Awesome!!!

Amianthus,

How did you do it , Been looking at doing something like that to hide switches when I mount my hideaway strobes! You wouldn't happen to have a closeup of that pic would ya.

Thanx

PS how goes the rescue truck search?

'95 with high cupholder

Here is how I did it on my '95. There is a glare in the picture from the flash that almost hides the OD lockout light. I wanted the hole for the OD lockout button for my gauge so I moved the button to the switch panel. That's the button labeled OD. The switches are: TC - TCC clutch manual lockup, EB - exhaust brake, PL - prelube (kills fuel solenoid), AC - air compressor, LS - left side steps, and RS right side steps. I wired it with disconnect plugs so I can remove it if I want to do anything with it. Since the picture I have added a warning light that's on if I leave the tail gate down.

Radio Mounting

Here is my switches. Can't see from the left seat, but you can feel real well :) .

Amianthus,

Looking for info on your radio mounts. I need to mount two radios in my 01' with a stick.

Looking at using the Brolin mount for one, and removing the cubby hole for the other, but not sure about the cubby hole position. Any comments?

Thanks EMD, I agree. :) :) :)

My first time (posting a pic) hope it works. When installing a CD player I found an adapter plate for adding a equalizer with it and the block off plate made a great place for switches.

Thanks for all the great info. Went down and bought all the stuff today, hopefully this weekend will be able to get around to doing it, will post some pix when done.

PS- Shelby does have one kick ass work truck... .....

Shelby,

Those radios/siren are being held up by two 1. 5" wide strips of Aluminum that I bent and fastened to the front frame and the back frame of the dash. If you pull out the cubby, you'll see what I mean. If one were to use steel, it would be really rigid. Right now my radios move a little bit, but that's because of the Aluminum. I have access to alot of it here at work. I then attached my top braket to the ones in the dash and made two more aluminum supports and screwed them into the sides of the remaining equipment. They aren't going anywhere. If you are gonna do something like this, check to make sure your shift pattern keeps clear of the equipment. Also, make sure that you don't bump your "Super Buddy" mug into the siren while the lady in front of you is trying to place an order in the drive through. :D

Source for Lighted Rocker Switches

I have had several people here and on NW Bombers want to know where I got my switches. They came as a part of my bed deal, so I really didn't know. Made a call today and then spent about an hour on line. I Found them! You can see a picture of them in my truck 7 posts up in this thread

Contura Rocker Switches

Look under products/switches/Contura Rocker.

Looks like the body, actuators and mounting panels

are all sold separately. Price looks fairly decent too.

I am ordering a catalog for myself.

Hope this helps.

Wow- Shelby did some diggin to find this one! I know exactly where to purchase those exact switches, a rather large electronics store around here has them. if I recall, they aren't exactly cheap, but very well made and smooth.

Any local So Cal guys should know about this place, and I belive they do mail order as well. Orvac Electronics

Here is where I put my switches for my auxiliary lights.

There is a picture of the lights in my Readers Rigs album.

I also ran my switches on the ash tray cover exterior. I ran a big toggle for my manual air compressor on/off with a green LED and have 4 momentary push buttons, 2 red for filling, 2 black for emptying my rear air bags but I am not sure if I want to keep that setup. Maybe just a single switch with double throw momentary.

I also wired a green LED and amber LED lights to my grid heaters and mounted them in my upper right corner of my panel. Kind of fun to see them dance around in the morning.

I will probably also put either my tank guage or dual readout bag guage in the tray itself.

I will get pics soon.

Amianthus How did you mount that stuff? Thats how I want to mount my radios, but I don't know how to make the first mount to the dash board.
