I am thinking about switching oils for winter time. Currently I am running Schaeffer supreme 15-40 semi-synthetic and would like to switch to a 0-40 or a 5-30 non synthetic.

My question is do I need to do anything before I switch like flush the motor? Just wanted to check. Thanks a lot.

Is your eng. turning over slow or what, can you plug in? I'm running rotilla 15-40 , I would warn against using a oil that thin unless there is no other opp. less lubrication with thinner oils, if no symtoms that are related to oil , turns over slow and not bad batteries , connections !!! leave in, I never heard of
any eng. oil that is not compatible with others , especaly if doing a change.

I do like how you set up your truck.

I don't know that they even make a 0w40 or even a 5w40 non synthetic. It would require way too many VII's (additives) and would be a crappy oil. I don't know of a 5w30 conventional oil that carries the CI-4 rating.

If you want a decent oil for your winter climate I would recommend a 5w40. Most will be a Group III synthetic with the exception of Delvac 1.

If your serious about switching from a synthetic, don't. Better yet switch to Series 3000 HDD SAE 5w-30 Heavy Duty Diesel Engine oil from Amsoil. Excellent cold start properties and the best oil there is. Call Dave Mann (The Amsoil Man) 888-879-1362 and let him discuss it with you. He's in Michigan.

Yep I'd stay away from 5-30 non synthetic. And I'm pretty sure there's no such thing as 0-40 conventional oil. The Amsoil 5w30 would be a good choice for Michigan year round, great for winter startups and adequate for most northern summers. I stick with 15w40 syn since our winters aren't too cold and summers are too hot for 5w30 . . . tried it once and it didn't do so well.
