has anyone attempted this project? if so what was the approx cost of the endeavor  also how long did it take? I think I might leave this one up to the experts DTT, Bill and his staff have a great reputation and all the little tricks but I may give it a shot myself.

Wiz,

Nowel and Adam Sprague both swapped their 5 speeds for autos this year. One went to DTT and the other to BD Power I believe. I think Nowel went to DTT and Adam to BD, but that may be bass akwards.

Don't become shiftless..... :D

Wiz, first marriage now this you have went nuts on us buddy. lol I mean no disrespect to your wife but I'm not sure you should be so rough on your truck. I'm not saying this because you are slightly bigger than I am either.

Why would someone pay all that money to loose two gears and a clutch? It seems like it would be better to sell or trade it for an auto. It's not like the HO 6 speed is hard to get rid of.

Good luck.

Well, I suppose I could drag race with my 6 speed. Let's see... 20 seconds to do the 1/4 mile and another 30 to shift it four times. Still seems kind of expensive and alot of work.

Auto's are the only way to go fast. :D :D

We have a guy in the shop right now that we are converting. he wasn't to happy that a stick with DD3's and an EZ couldn't out run my truck with a DD2's. So needless to say he's getting rid of that problem. I may have some competition now. :(

You should see the trick set-up that he's doing with these conversions.

Actually its my wifes idea"eek:, she gets upset about "THAT STUPID SHIFTER IS IN THE WAY AND I HATE HAVING TO SHIFT THIS PIG WHEN I DRIVE IT" driving this thing is just plain poop" (HER WORDS) she also doesn't like the fact that she has to sit there with her legs spread:eek::eek:, she likes to sit next to me at all times. She says its a pain to get in and out of the truck so this whole thing was her suggestion. So Stefan here's a question for you, HOW MUCH???? to do the job in your shop also I want it to look factory shift in the console the whole shebangee you can email it to me, it might get people around here calling me up just to say I was insane which is partially true. Also where in the he!! is Chilliwack BC Canada

Hello Wiz,

personally if you want it to look factory, start over... .....

you'll save a ship load of money and time besides you'll have a more bomb friendly ecm and pump in my opinion. Also if your still working it youd be better to go with 411'a with the auto.

Anyway all your hotrod parts would just swap over to the new one.

Good luck, talk with you soon.

Adam

LOL... . Chilliwack is just north of Vancouver BC,,, which is just NW of Seattle Warshington ;)

ps: don't listen to these gear-grinders ;) ;), Bill and the boys will make that thing ROCK... oh ya, you better see if you can get a second hand G-Suit (and neck brace) from the airforce, yer gonna need it. :p :p

JMO.

Only way to go fast?????

Hey Stefan,,I think out in your neck of the woods there a few guys that would serverly disagree with your uneducated remark about going fast with an automatic,,Seems the LEE BROS have the fastest NHRA AND IHRA superstocker a SS/A 68 Hemi 4 spd Cuda,,Going fast is not always for autos it just depends on how well you can row a stick,,I do of course realize that not much has been done as far as a short throw shifter for our NV"s or any performance stick trannies have been tried,,BUT,never in drag racing and I do not care if your auto truck is a bad hombre or what say "auto's are the best for racing",,Auto's may be more consistent for those who can not cut a light to save their rear, but, just when you think your auto equipped truck is gone a stick truck WILL drive around you,,Golden rule applies here... ... REAL RACE CARS HAVE STICK SHIFTS,AND SO DO REAL TRUCKS... ...

Hey Wiz1, here's a thought, find someone with an auto that wants to go to a stick. Personally, I'd much rather have a stick than my auto. Put the 2 trucks in the same shop and just switch parts back & forth. Shouldn't cost as much as it would be all labor, and maybe just some freshen up parts. Oh, of course the DTT parts would be extra.

Hammer, these heavy truck trannys cant be shifted nearly as fast as those cars trannys. My stock 2000 auto was quicker than an 01 HO,in the quarter mile,he was catching me,but by then it was over. The 6 speed ratios are for towing, not drag racing,so they are tight,to much time off boost shifting IMO. Wiz,I have a DTT modified auto,id gladly swap it for your 6 speed, your nuts. Sounds liek to much work to me,and much less reliable. With the money you spend, you could buy an old drag car that already runs 12's,and not beat your truck to death.
