I assume you meant 5/30 synth. :) :)

No, you should encounter no problems whatever. Actually, your oil usage may decrease some; the 5/30 is rather thin.

Not being nosy or trying to start an argument here; just curious as to why you aren't switching to Amsoil 15/40.

Right , Amsoil synthetic 5/30. Just tired of dealing with Amsoil. Valvoline premium blue are easily available at Napa at about $15 /gal. Amsoil filters are not approved by DC so I have to order from Genos anyway. I will switch back to a 5 weight synthetic in the winter.

from what ive heard, the extended drain intervals keep the contaminates in the engine longer where as using a dino oil with detergents and regular changes would clean the junk out better.

i got some delo400 for 58 bucks a case (6gals). i think sythetics in the engine is more hype than anything but i do run syths in the rest of the truck.

I run the premium blue in the summer & swap to the rotella 5w40 syn in the winter (it gets to -50f which is the reason I run syn) I have no problems what so ever. Drain intervals at 6 months (around 5k). Can't go wrong with oil spec'd by Cummins.

I had run Amsoil for 85k mi, but my copper levels on oil analisis were getting progressively higher. I finally changed out my oil cooler and switched back to dino (Valvoline premium blue, Cummins rated) and now copper is below 4ppm not over 680ppm as before. I now change oil and filter at 6k and the fuel filter too. and the Valvoline blue 15w40 is only $9. 96 per gallon at Autozone.
