I've heard of a lot of peo-ple switching thier shifters out. For example, putting a shifter rom a 24v in the top of the transmission of a 95 12v transmission to eliminate the long shift throws. Will this work? My friend has a 01 half ton and I was wondering if I could put that shifter in the top of my transmission for shorter shift throws. Thanks guys

What you are looking for is a Short-Shift Kit. I see that you have a 5 speed. I believe that there is one availavbe for your transmission. As far as taking the shifter from an 01, I would think there might be some problems with bolt patterns along with slide/pivot point sizing and such. I think that BD might have what your are looking for. Good luck :)

What is the web site for BD? The short shift kit would be awesome. Would I have to remove the transmission? Or could I do it from the top? Thanks

Are you sure that is the right web site because I can't get it to work. It just says error everytime. What is the phone number?

Look here for a short shift kit. They have one for the 5 speed. Call and ask them questions. Good luck. -Wally- ;)

They do not make a short shift kit for the 94-97 NV4500's. The shifter towers are different between a 94-97 & 98-up. I have heard of a couple of guys on www.NWbombers.com successfully swaping out a top cover from a 98 or newer NV4500 to a older style NV4500. However the transmission in your friends 1/2 ton is a NV3500 I believe? Don't quote me on that but know its two different trannies from a 1500 to a 2500/3500. More than likely won't work, but I couldn't be wrong.

I wish I could find a cover. I've advertised in the classifieds a couple of times, but never came up with anything.

When my last 4500 went out I just opted to change to the newer five speed. From ST, they send the adapter for the 4X4 lever, where it blots onto the transmission, and the shift stick. I like the throw a lot better but still may go with the short shift. Like GS said, there is no adapter for the 94-97 transmission's.
