Well, jeeze - most of the above is what any thinking person would expect from a thread like this in a GROUP like this - I can only IMAGINE what the Ford guy's response would be in a thread where one of their members announced he was switching to Dodge. .



Who knows - in a fairly short time, YOU may get to find out!



I, for one, hope you choose to stick around and keep us posted on your new choice in a truck - first-hand impressions of a Ford from a former Dodge owner should be quite revealing - and we're NOT your enemies just because you choose to switch brands!



Hey - we bought a new '05 Ford Escape for my wife - we love it so far - and I'm not ashamed to admit there's a "Blue Oval" sitting next to the Ram out in my garage!

I'm with Gary, just because I believe the 6. 0 PSD is an embarassing engineering faux pas, doesn't mean I dislike Ford's. Still thinking about a new Mustang GT for the wife's B-day. They look very sharp (sharper than even a 3rd gen front end!..... )

Yes it is a 2004 "long term survey" Meaning they checked out the progress on the 01s to find out what the owners went through the previous 3 years. It is in fact for 01s. Not the hemi nor the 6. 0 are referred to in the survey. Course they dont make it easy to ascertain much do they. Can I see the darn graphs for each vehicle.

I chose to back out of buying a 2004 F250 with the 6. 0L for my 2001 F350 with the 7. 3L and I am glad I did. I saved a TON of cash and have brought the total mileage on my 2001 up to 110,000 (bought it in late spring with 99k) and it has worked perfectly.



I still miss the sound of the Cummins though

I looked at the ford f350 duel wheels king ranch the other day and then talked to the mechanics at the dealership. I was told to stay away from the diesel 6. 0 due to electrical problems and I then asked about the trans and I was told that the auto is also showing up in the shop. I then asked about the V10 engine and was told it get's around 10 miles to the gal and that the only trans they do'nt see in the shop is the manual. So I guess the V10 with the 6 speed manual is the way to go.

Scraper what the tech forgot to mention is that 10mpg is down hill, empty with one helluva tail wind.

So far (2200 miles) I have not had any problems with my new F250 PSD. It takes a little longer to start than my Cummins and that took a little getting used to. But the truck is very nice, solid and runs great. I really like that turbo charger "whisling" sound it makes when you accelerate... sounds just like the big rigs.

The Ford guys on the Ford Forum who really slam Dodges and the guys on this forum who really slam Fords are both wrong! Both Ford and Dodge are building damn good trucks right now. It's just a matter of which one fits your needs best. I just happened to choose Ford this time because it has more of the features I want in a truck. I still have my 89 Dodge Cummins and it also serves its purpose. I like 'em both. Hey, maybe I can't have two women but I CAN have two trucks :-laf

Good luck with your new Ford. My wife just traded her 04 F350 6. 0 DRW Lariat for an 05 3500 DRW CTD. The Ford with just 46,000 miles had front end , rear end and engine issues. You'll find that the oil and fuel filters cost almost triple vs Dodge. ( there are two fuel filters , one on top of engine and one on framerail below driver door) Like my wife's Dodge truck so much that i traded my F150 for the 3500 DRW CTD. I really like this Dodge. Now we have twins.

i did some reading on that website before. there was way more negative than positive talk. this site was pretty much then decision maker for me when it came to buying my truck. good luck with the ford. my family has always been ford fans and they have always had damn good trucks.

BTighe hits the nail on the head with his observation about his family. Buying vehicles is a crap shoot, although pressure from Japanese manufacturers has made it less of one in recent years. If someone lucks out and gets a good vehicle - or maybe even several in a row - it's for sure they will be a fan for life. I'm a good example: I bought a Subaru in the mid-80s and it was a rattletrap by the time it had 80,000 miles on it. You couldn't give me one today, although I know many people who swear by them.

And THAT is the main focus here, or should be!



It really isn't what the truck does or how it performs in the first relatively FEW miles, but the longer haul. I'm not nearly as interested in what my truck will do in the FIRST 100,000 miles, as I am in what it will be doing in the second and third hundred thou!



After all, isn't the LONG-TERM durability and reliability what we BUY a diesel for?



To that end, the (hopefully) more objective views and experiences of someone like DM, rather than the "Blue Oval worshippers" in the Ford groups should be more reliable...



Time and miles will tell...

Reliability

Well, reliability and longevity are important. I'd rather have an engine that serves me well in those categories, but the truck matters too. Just today I queried my dealer as to why the heater wasn't blowing on my feet hard enough. Turns out the lower heater case and defrost door need replacing. Hundred bucks worth of parts, $600 labor to pull the dash out to get to where the problem is! I'm gonna ride this one out for awhile. :{

If i'm not mistaken there is a TSB on this. Call D. C. and ask for assistance as this is a known problem on 03s. By the way. EVERTHING (asuto/trucks)being built have got TSB's. Some have PAGES,some have a few. But they all do. I chatted with a D. c. rep the other day. He more or less said that a lot of common issues(out of warranty but known problems)he expected his dealers TO HANDLE if at all possable in the customers favor. Now not all service managers may have this attitude but apprently D. C. does or this rep would not have comminted about it.

ACTUALLY, I worded my post above poorly - naturally I *am* interested in a trucks early-miles operation, what I meant was, it is reasonably EXPECTED that any given vehicle will function well during the early miles, it's the advanced mileage performance that really sets one apart from others...



With that in mind, it's pretty meaningless for an owner to crow about how well his truck is functioning after 10 or 20 thousand miles, after all, why WOULDN'T it operate well for that distance?



MY truck now has 35,000 miles on it, and as far as I am concerned, it's not even fully broken in yet - and dern well SHOULD still be operation flawlessly!
