Ok. . I have heard many good and bad issues with switching to synthetic oil. How many people with higher mile cummins have switched and noticed no ill effects.

I have around 180 on both my trucks w/o any major oil leaks (knocks on wood) I would hate to start one by switching to synth oil.

I wish I was half the mechanic some of the guys here are so I could provide information that would be more useful. Having said that, here goes:

My '92 has been running AmsOil syn for the last 60K miles with no ill effects; no leaking. The thing I like about it is that in my colder climate the oil doesn't act as sluggish this time of year when I first turn it over and need to get things lubricated quickly. I only have about 140K miles on my truck.

Lastly, I'll paraphrase what I heard a rep from Mobil say about synthetic oil: It has an affinity for leaks. If there is anyplace it can find a way out of the engine, it's going to do it. But as I said, I haven't had any trouble at all. No leaking and at 25 degrees below, it's nice to see the gauge climbing when I turn it over.

P. S. On your comment "Getrag ready to blow", I just went through that. Do what you can to get it checked NOW. I waited one day too long and now have the pleasure of owning a brand-new NV4500 and new clutch. Not to mention walking is a pain.

Just switched over to AmsOil 4500 miles ago. As you can see by my sig, I have a few miles on the truck. Truck definitely turns over easier in cold weather. Haven't found ANY leaks since switching over. I did experience a little more blowover out the vent tube at first (500 miles) but even that settled down quickly. I'm running the bypass filter setup.

Like I said, no leaks old OR new on the engine since switching. Any more questions, PM and I'll be glad to answer.

syn oil

'O' i switched to amsoil in the motor and trans(518) and i am satisfied with the results. The oil pressure went up and i towed 12,000 with it and trans temp never went above 180. JUST DO IT!
