If I want to put a P7100 pump in my 1993 do I just need to change fuel lines and hook up all the electrical or is there more to the swap?

I have not tried to do this. But from other posts. You need to change the timing cover and back plate, the timing gears, the injection lines. There were a few other items to. But I can't remember them.

We are not lucky enough for it to be a easy swap.

I think one of the major limiting factors of performing such a conversion is $$$$$$$$$. If you have a source for the necessary parts at a good price, then you'll be well ahead of the game. I was thinking of doing the p-pump conversion a while ago too. Something else to consider is that the throttle linkage will need to be modified as well as the linkage for the cruise control and auto transmission kickdown cable. Also, the p-pump is MUCH larger than the VE. The AFC will come very close to the master cylinder for the brakes. This may or may not necessitate changing to a hydro-booster.

Are you thinking of doing the conversion for the added reliability of the p-pump? Or are you thinking of making big HP?

FWIW, this conversion can and has been done. I've had a little birdie tell me that there should be one happening in my area in the springtime (no, it's not for me)

You would have to change a lot.

Pull front gear cover, cam gear or gear and cam together, remove gear case and reinstall 2nd gen gear casing, p7100 pump with gear, 2nd gen inj lines, brackets, throttle/transmission lines, lift pump, fuel filter housing and some small stuff.

You can leave the 1st gen head on the truck, but they don't flow like a 2nd gen head so without changing it for a 2nd gen and modifiy 2nd gen intercooler into truck with 2nd gen boost pipes and hoses you won't be taking advantage of more power. Don't forget replacing transmission if its a std and if its a auto you would have to have it built right.

As you can see its not a small job. Better off replacing motor/trans with 2nd gen if you aren't going radical.

I'm just trying to get more power. my V-pump stoped putting out, and I was told that the V-pump's can only be turned up 10%? Is this true. My goal is 300hp :p

p7100 switch

 Funny, I was thinking the same thing when I bought a 96 core motor complete except for the front timing cover and pan. Everything is there for the swap. Then, I got the pod's and and all the other modifications on on the 92 and am happy with the power that I need. Just setting in the corner of the shop sealed in plastic. Probably won't use it now, e-mail me if you want it! The dowell pin had moved out half way on this motor and it appears to have realitively low mile on it. The wrecking yard didn't know the milage. Tim:) :)
