Trailer tires

I will not go back to a SRW tow rig, I will not let that happen and my wife WILL NOT LET THAT HAPPEN... Much more stable in side winds, the twisties, passing big trucks ETC the list goes on and on. There are 3 down sides to duallys, #1=more tires to replace, #2=wider if you use your truck to get groceries or park in a small garage. #3= I cant think of any other down side, sorry.
#3= Only old farts drive duallys :)

Bug Out, what is your rear axle weight when loaded? I have a hard time believing it's under 6,390, it just seems you would be heavier. There is only so much to spare and at 25% of 17k you would be heavy, especially if there was any fuel in that 45 gal tank.

The axle uses from 2003+ is rated for over 10K lbs, by AAM, so tires are the issue. OEM tires are good for a RAW of 6,390 unless you have a 13+ with 18's then you are good for ~7,200.

Adding 19.5's can do a lot for a SRW truck, it gives you 9,000 lbs of tire capacity. A LRG tire at 110psi is going to be very stable.

Even with my 29' TT I was easily able to go over 6,390 on the rear axle with stuff in the bed, even an average trip had me at about 6,000. I made the switch to 19.5s and am anxious to see how they do loaded up.

If you live on the asphalt a DRW can make sense, but my SRW is already almost too wide for a lot of the places I go.

I am pulling a 40foot triple axle TH with an 2011 longbed dually and like it real well. When I bought the trailer I had a 09 2500 longbed that pulled it alright ,But the trailer was mashing it down a lot.

I just worried about what would happen when running in traffic in Dallas in center of 5 lanes and blowing a rear tire on my single wheel and being able to control everything while trying to get to the shoulder without catastrophic consequences.

As far as getting around with the big long dually, I have parked mine in all of MD Anderson parking garages in Houston with no problem at all.
