Sylnania Ultra silverstars ?

Has anyone tried the Sylvania Ultra silverstars (9006)in there fog lights?If so how do you like them?Thanks. coobie

I have had five CTD(all were second gen 99-02). I put them in all the head lights and will do it again when I purchase my next one. I did not know they work in the fog lights and will give it a try.



My point is I was always happy with the $50. 00 I spent on them

No, but I just last week retro-fitted a pair of Sylvania Cool Blue 9005's in my fogs and like them a LOT! I also just replaced my factory headlights with plain old SilverStar's and like them a lot too!! Overall, I'm very happy with both upgrades, especially for the $50 or so they cost me. (I realize this did not answer your question though... )

your foglights are different, last I heard there weren't any Silverstars for the 2nd gen foglights.

I'm still filing down the center tabs so the harness connectors will fit together.

There are definately better bulbs out there than the stockers. If you are looking for better light make sure you get a clear bulb. No offense on the cool blues but, anything with a colored bulb is giving up precious light in exchange for the color.

I replaced the stock fog light bulbs with the '9005 Ultra Silverstars' and they work very nicely. I believe they are actually considered a high beam bulb and the light is very white. I replaced the stock headlight bulbs with the Silverstars as they didn't have the 'Ultra' that fit my 2007. 5. I am still not happy with the stock headlights even with the Silverstars, particulary high beam. I have some PIAA 2100 series Extreme White Driving Lights PIAA for down the road light but haven't got them installed yet.

Shorter life is a by product of the brighter light in most cases. The are brighter but die sooner

I second that observation. Had them in two cars and my 98. All of them died within two years. Stock bulbs in volkswagen are 5 years old... go figure.

I have read about the short life of these bulbs before. I have had some in my 95 Dakota for 7 years I have never had one burn out. Maybe I am lucky. Six of the 7 years I was working grave yard so the headlights got used every day.

My 02 is a Sport it has 4 headlight bulbs, I have had my Silverstars in for over five years, no loss of light or burnouts!:-laf

How did those fog lights work out? Do you have a model number? Were they the same size, fit & electrical connections as the stockers?

Thats for sure as the 9005's I put in only lasted about 7 months... they were nice and bright but dought I spend that much again for such a short life span.

Big difference there is the voltage reaching the bulb. On your 95 dakota, the voltage applied goes throught he switch and a bunch of wiring to get to the bulb. ON the 3rd gen trucks, the switch voltage just triggers the computer to send voltage to the light (simplified, I know). The end result is higher voltage at the bulb. Higher voltage on a silverstar results in shorter life. I put ultras in my wifes 94 acura and the fogs on my 06 at the same time. The ultras burned out within 6 months. I sent them back and received a refund as they have a one year performance guarantee. I put in regular silverstars and they have held up much better. The ultras in the wifes car are still doing great, 2 years later.



BTW, cheapest place I foudn for silverstars is on fleabay. I got the ultras for the wifes car (9005 & 9006) for under $60 delivered.

I just replaced my left side fog lamp for the SECOND time using Sylvania Silverstar Ultra bulbs, thankfully both covered under warranty. I have had 2 burn out in under a year, nice bulb but short life. Expensive at $50/pair if they need to be replaced every year . . . just my $0. 02
