Hello all. I got a 2016 2500 6.7 80300 miles. 300 miles out of " warranty " my def pump fails. Took it to the dealer of course its out of pocket. They did a list of recals no joke 2 pages long. They replaced alot of emissions related parts. Has anyone had any luck getting a " courtesy " warranty on emissions parts. Ive been back forth google, searching the forums etc etc. So much mixed information on whats covered, how long its covered. Ive also come the thinking that your dealer support factors in alot. I know there are alot of posts about these issues on here. Just didnt want to hijack someone and maybe get an answer from a guy thats been there. Does anyone know what actually fails in the pump ?? Im in the heavy equipment business and we have one brand of forklift that looses def pumps continually. Some machines have had 2 or 3 pumps installed and no one knows what components fail. Circut boards, sensors its like mums the word. Its odd you can rebuild pumps injectors failing gauge clusters ecms. But a 20 dollar Chinese made part. No sir 1000 bucks please.. But then why do they want the core ?? Feel like im getting the screw job. Sorry to vent just curious if anyone has had luck pushing warranty after the fact. Thanks in advance guys

In my world (Big Trucks) an option in a case such as yours would be to ask to speak with or be given the email address of the RAM District Service Manager. If you do get that opportunity ask if there would be any exceptions or help available for your 300 mile out of warranty circumstance. Remain calm and courteous, you might just get some help. Again in my world the DSM's have policy money available that they can use at their discretion on a case by case basis. This may NOT be the case with RAM, but what's the harm in asking. If you are a repeat RAM customer, etc. be sure and mention that. Do not make any digs towards RAM, the dealer or anything else. Warranty has a legal beginning and legal end but being that close is worth at least asking....

Good advice. They don't want a people to run to another manufacturer

Looks like i am on my own. This would be my 4th cummins powered ram. And the 5th dodge product purchased from one dealership. I am giving serious thought after looking into it alot just doing a full delete. Dont got much to loose at this point since warranty is officially done.

This is why I bought the extended warranty. But interestingly enough, I think the extended warranty only covers some of the emissions. Not the DPF, and possibly an exclusion for a few other parts. I probably should have read the warranty better (max care) before purchasing.

Before throwing in the towel, suggest a conversation with the sales manager. Explain your purchase loyalty history and the fact that your just 300 miles over. If he can't do anything then let him have it with both barrels.

It might work, and DEFINATELY worth a try. It depends if the sales dept has a good relationship with the service dept.

Sometimes these depts are at odds..... for example, sales dept writing coupons for free oil changes to sell a car, and the service dept has to eat the cost. And other things not approved by the dealership management. The guy who sold my wife her mazda got in trouble for that.

When I ordered a replacement tire at the dealer and the parts dept accidentally ordered the HT instead of the AT... And the service manager showed the parts dept their mistake, the service writer said the parts dept had to eat the cost.

So it may be tough for the sales manager to do this unless he goes to the dealership management. Sometimes these various depts are in competition with each other and sometimes they work together. They all (each dept) records their profits independently. And present those profits to the dealership management.

My 2015 emissions warranty is 80,000 miles. My truck has 83,000 miles on it. Dealer told me it was under warranty so I had it towed there. 1 week later they called and said it’s not under warranty.

My guess is that Sales Management will have a hell of a lot more influence with store management then a service manager. I highly doubt if anyone in the service dept. cared if they ever saw a repeat customer or not.

Just read an article that says Car Dealerships make (on average) 44% of profits on service. And 30% of profits on new vehicle sales.

But they might make.a good penny.on these expensive trucks that have more make-up than an economy car.

Still.worth a try

Propose to FCA that they meet you 50% on the final bill.

After all.....it is explicitly spelled out what the terms of the warranty is.

Quick update. After asking for help on covering the def pump 300 miles out of warranty. I was told no dice. Went to the dealer picked it up and took it home....... Bought an mm3 turner and did a full delete. The works. Dpf, egr etc... 4 inch exhaust. Damm what a difference. I was really on the fence about doing the delete. But im sure glad i did. Just a night and day difference.

From the OP’s recent reply, Apparently, they do.

I hope you told the Service AND General Manager that the inflexibility shown to you on this issue has caused them to lose a long time customer and if they want to stay in touch with you, they can follow you on various Cummins/Ram forums and other social media where you’ll be sharing how the dealership and Ram treats a previously loyal customer. Denial of any assistance because one is just 300 miles over on a freaking emissions part that has a history of being unreliable is complete BS.

Yeah, you don't have to be nice any longer. Even though there is no legal obligation to fix under warranty, it seems a bit callous to not split the cost 50/50 at 300 miles past warranty.

I bought a max care. I hope FCA doesn't treat me like this if I have an issue 300 miles past max care warranty. Max care wasn't cheap

I would have suggested trying another dealer before deleting. But deleting was an option that worked for you. It is not an option.for people some states.
