first time to post . my 02,2500,4x4,5speed,stock with rapture chip,82000miles has had trouble going into 5th gear for about a month but tapping the throttle to get rpms to match up it slid on in and worked but now it getting hard to get into all gears. had local transmission man iin hempstead, tx. ride and drive and he says syncronizers goin out, clutch is fine and doesn't think it has to do with 5th gear nut backin off. loocal dodge dealer wont even talk to me about warranty on transmission. says the 100,000 miles is on engine only. local mechnic says he can get rebuilt transmission for 1400... what options should i look into ? need a little about which way to go... thanks, stan

You could have someone put synchros in it, they could check the 5th gear while it's apart. That sounds like the problem. Could also be mainshaft bearings going bad, causing misalignment of parts inside transmission, binding, etc. $1400 sounds pretty reasonable for rebuilt 5-speed. If you're going to bomb truck in the future you might consider swapping to a 6-speed. More money up front but a much stouter transmission inside and out, bigger clutch and more clutch upgrade options than a 5-speed.

Call or take it to Standard Transmission in Fort Worth. They are a TDR advertiser and are honest and fair. I had the NVG-5600 in my old '01 rebuilt by them at 302k miles. They had it in and out in 24 hours and it worked and still works perfectly.

GAmes, a fellow TDR member and RV transporter has just under 600k on his '97 12 valve with 5 speed. Standard has rebuilt his transmission a couple of times. Ask him about the quality of their work and customer service.

I strongly recommend them.
