I picked up one from Geno's and was going to install it myself when I noticed the new long bolt is too long for my deep socket. I tried a local tool store that only had a crows foot wrench that they wanted $60 for which was more than I wanted to spend to use it one time.

Any ideas on what to use? I have a large enough adjustable wrench, but would not be able to know if I get near the 185 ft-lbs.

What have others done?

Thanks,

Chris

A large crescent wrench would work fine as long as you can get a clear shot at the nut, which you should be able to do.
In terms of final torque, one foot pound is equal to one pound of force at one foot of radius from the nut.
SOOOOO... . If your wrench is about 12" long, then you would need to push 185# (about your full weight??) against the wrench to tighten to the correct torque. If your wrench is 2' long, then you would need to push only about 90# against it, assuming you are pushing at the end of the handle. If your wrench handle is 18" long, then you would need to push about 140# against it.
When I do soething like this, I kind of thik about "leaning" a portion of my full weight into it to get an idea of what I am pushing on the end of the wrench.
Just make sure it doesn't slip and/or round the nut, but the nut is relatively large, so I doubt that will be a problem.

Ceomall, I installed the same brace on my truck. I just locked to wrenches together and gave it the full body lung. I know this may not help you much but if you do decide to use a crescent wrench method at least you know You are not alone on the torque geussestimation method.

Thanks! That sounds like it would be in the ball park. I mostly wanted to make sure I was not alone on this and doing something silly! Gee, I think I was 185 back in high school... almost 30 years ago.
