Synthetic Engine OIl

I have heard that Mobil 1 is not a good synthetic oil for diesels. If this is true what synthetic should i use? Is there an oil company that makes synthetic in everything including my ATF fluid? Thanks For YOur suggestions!!!

P. S. Will switching from Dino to synthetic cause my seals to leak being as I have 55,000 miles?

Mobil Delvac 1 is a diesel rated full synthetic oil.



So far the Dodge ATF+4 is the only oil you can use in the auto's. They have not approved Redline or Amsoil..... of course they say say they are as good but DC MAY not honor any warranty claims if you use them.

There are not any after market ATF +4 approved fluids at this time as DC has not released this fluid into the aftermarket.

They have an exclusive arrangement with two major oil companies for production and the additive suppliers have signed exclusives to not supply the required ad packs to anyone but those two majors. One is in Canada, the other here in the states.



The independent lube manufacturer's have filed a restraint of trade lawsuit trying to get this market opened up for the aftermarket - so if you've bought ANY DC vehicle in the last three years, the only place to get a fluid that meets DC warranty is from the dealers.



It is not possible to add an aftermarket additive package to Dexron type fluid to make it meet DC warranty requirements and no, Amsoil does not have a factory approved ATF +4 type fluid - no matter what these so called lubricant experts may say or what their literature might say. hell, they used to claim that they had a universal atf that might Mercon, Dexron and ATF +4. It can't be done. If it could, companies like EOM would produce it so that they could have one atf product - much easier to distribute.

If that is truly the case, then it must be given to you from the company at no charge.



The manufactorers have been trying to play these games for years, if we the consumer fall into step, then we have noone to blame but ourselves when we pay $20+a qt for oil, or other items.



Somebody had better call Amsoil and let them know their ATF doesn't work, redram said so.

I bought Amsoil ATF, which they claim meets Mopar ATF+4 specs for the 30K transfer case fluid change in my 01. Took the truck to the dealer where I bought the truck, and had them change the fluids. They made no comments whatever about the Amsoil fluids I provided. I used all Amsoil, with the exception of the NV5600. I used the Penzoil stuff for that. I seems like it would be hard for Dodge to void the warranty a ***** dealer changed the fluids.

Redram is right,go and have it analyze it is different,just do a sniff test ,it does smell a lot different . The others will work but that does not mean they are the same,How much different I do not Known.

Wayne does have a good point here. They do have too much to risk in putting out falsely labeled products.

I have always been told not to switch to sythetic until at least 10,000 miles to ensure proper breakin and seating... ... but after that does it hurt to switch back and forth and only use the synthetic in the winter?



And a comment on the original post that Mobile Delvac 1 was not a good oil, never heard a bad thing about it before except for the price and availability.

I never do what I'm told so my engine has synthetic in it at 5k.



I don't buy non-break in thing with synthetic... just for the record.

OK I was going to start my own oil question, so I will ask it here instead. I've always used amsoil's 15W 40 "heavy duty marine engine stuff, however has anybody used the series 2000 which I understand is 0W 30. I s that to light for our engines? coments questions etc...

UMMmmm - you mean the SAME WAY Banks, and a whole BUNCH of other aftermarket vendors - STP, Prolong and others, have "too much to risk" by misleading buyer...



And exactly what color IS the sky there in the world YOU live in?



That's like saying the radio, TV and newspapers couldn't SAY it if it wasn't TRUE... .

Ask any one of those oil companies if they would stand behind you if DC decided to fight a warranty claim... yea right



And I'm sure they would pay your out of pocket expense if DC won their claim



Remember if your cash strapped dealer decides to fight a warranty issue your out your car till the claim is settled or you pay up front to get the work done.

To my knowledge, Amsoil only ever lost one court case over the spelling of their name.



However, some of the "as seen on tv" additive companies are in endless court battles, and usually lose, paying millions in fines for false advertising to the FTC.

They pay the fine, change their label and go right back to it.



Amsoil, on the other hand, has had the same advertising for 30 years. Extended drains, meets or exceeds, etc.



Anyone know of a court case where they were sued for false advertising?

Or, better yet, a case where a factory warranty was denied on a car becuase of the use of Amsoil?
