I have an 01 with 85+ on it runs great was using 15W/40 Valvoline. Was think of switching to synthetic. DId some oil testing and was told go 8500 instead of my usual 7500 change schedule. Fuel in oil was less than 1% or almost negligible I think they said. What type? What would be available locally on Long Island never paid much attention to it although I use it in my road race Corvette. Pro's Con's if you go longer mileage how often for the filter changes? Thanks! I forgot where the search feature is here

found the search button. What exactly does the by-pass filter do? Still  if it is worth it. Probably don't want to put in a by-pass filter.

Why is the break even point $$$ wise for synthetic vs. dino? I can do the math but figured one of you had an idea already. What does the synthetic cost 8 per qt? Thanks!

The bypass filter take a small amount of oil continuously and runs it through a very effective filter. The filter is too restictive for full flow due to the nature of the filter. Amsoil's bypass filter is 100% effiecent at 2 microns (2 millionths of an inch) and 97% at 1 micron.

More info can be found here.

On your truck, I would mount the BMK-15 (dual filter kit) and put it horizontal mounted to the crossmember under the radiator. This relocats your full flow filter on the engine block and gives you easy access to both filters. Filter changes are very simple and clean and they can't be harmed by road (or off road) hazards.

For oil, either Amsoil's 15w-40 or the Series 3000 5w-30 will work. I run the 5w-30 and regardless of what some people think about the oil being too thin for hot climates, it works great. It was 106 here yeaterday. I run it year round.

Even with all my fuel and boost (over 600hp now, looking to break the 700 barrier), I change every 10k. Amsoil recommends 15k for severe service, which almost everyone falls into. With Oil anaylisis, you can extend the interval to when ever the oil is no longer fit for use, and just change the filters at 15K intervals. One guy went over 400k on an oil change on a big rig. Heres the write up.

Fuel mileage tends to go up a bit with synthetic oils also. Here is another writeup.

I will be starting an oil anyalisis experiment here very soon where after each race we will see how the oil is doing and follow the trend. We will truely see how long this can last!

I Use Amsoil And Change It 7500 - 10,000 Miles ( Filter Too ) I Have 25,000 ,miles In My Cummins

You are throwing money away changing synthetic oil that soon. 10k is about right for a good quality dino oil. 7500 if running the cheap stuff.

I run amsoil 15w40 and have the dual remote bypass filter system and do the amsoil trigaurd system and just changed my oil the first time at 30k miles but I change the full flow filter only every 5k and pull a sample every 5k the sample were still very good but I just did many new mods and wanted to start with new oil because the valve cover was off ect. With the amsoil trigaurd system they will pay for an oil related failure in the engine. When I change oil the synthetic oil didn't even start to turn dark until around 20k miles. at 10-15k it still looked brand new. at 30k miles at 5k filter changes and adding 1. 5qts due to filter the oil had been changed completely by then already. By doing it this way you could go basically forever without doing a complete oil change as long as the sampe program is followed closely. there are over the road trucks with over a million miles on the that have never had the oil pan plug out 1 time by running this type of routine.
