Synthetic oil....is it time?

I've got 13,500 miles on my 24 vale. It's time for an oil change and have been thinking about amsoil. I'm going to swtich to synthetic, sooner or later and was just wondering if it was too early to swith it over. I've pulled about 15 different loads with my truck and I think it will be ok to switch over to synthetic now, but i wanted more opinions. Also, what kind of changes can I expect with syntheic? Like fuel mileage and oil change intervals? Thanks in advance for your help.

I just did my first Amsoil oil change

My truck has about 6,000 miles on it, about

800 miles of that towing 8,000 lbs. Was running

Rotella T up until two days ago.

I switched mine over to the 5W30. It had about 11000 miles on it. I see a little increase in mileage. I'm getting 20. ? every tank now,sometimes I get 21+. I noticed a little difference in sound not much but its there. We put it in my sons 99 when he had 10000 he now has 83000+. Get the amsoil air filter(TS 106). You will notice a diference. We clean them once a year.

We change filter at 5000 and filter/oil at 10000. I know we could go longer on the oil if we had samples taken but we don't. Theres guys out there that are going quite a bit longer on the oil. Do a search and you will find them.

I've read it "all" over the years about synthetic oil versus ???, bottom line, if you change the oil and filter at the indicated service intervals for your driving style, you will get 500K plus miles with whatever good oil you use as long as it meet manufacture spec's. Now I know it makes me feel better when I use synthetic in my vehicles. So if it makes you feel good do it.

It should be fine to change over to Amsoil at this time .....



I'd recommend oil analysis and filter changes every 5000-7500 miles, depending on how much towing you do. If you have any other questions, drop me a line. If you don't want to bother with oil analysis, changing the filter after 5k-6k miles and doing a complete oil change @ 10k-12k miles will work as well.
