Synthetic oil question

Thanks, TDR Staff

I know its not a Cummins But it is Cool

Any school bus mechanics out there?

Hope this is in the proper forum.

I was thinking on getting some synthetic oil for the 12 valver.

Mobil 1 15w-40... . it is under $9 a gallon.

Talking with the parts guy he said that "once you go synthetic, you cant go back to dino oil". I've heard this in the past, but though this myth has been dispelled.

What do you oil guru's say. Would it benefit me (or more like the engine)to STAY with the synthetic?

I really dont think I'll stay with it... . unless they dont bump the price on me.

TIA

Eric

You can go back at any point in time. No worries. There are alot of misconceptions about synthetic oils. Personally, I think its the only way to go. Good luck!

This is certainly a BIG MYTH! Once you experience the benefits of a GOOD syntheitc oil however, you most likely would NOT want to go back.

Wayne nailed it. Synthetic and conventional oils are completely compatible and you can mix or switch back with no risk of damage to the engine.
