Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) Synthetic Oil Usage

Am about ready to switch over to Amsoil 15-40 D&M oil. Question for those who have done so. After you switched did your truck use more or less oil or was it about the same. I currently use Delo 15-40 and use about an eighth of an inch or so at 4ooo miles. Will be close to 33K after this weekend. My truck is right on at 11 quarts as well.

I switched at 15k and did not notice any difference.

I switched to Red Line 15-40 from Delo and noticed a big difference, seems to run "better" and gets a little better mileage. Mine has almost 70K and has never used a drop.

I switched to Amsoil @ 135,000 miles.

I've been on the Amsoil Series 3000 0W-30 Diesel oil for almost 100k miles (total 117k). I use 1/4 to 1/2 Quart every 10k miles and that's not even enough usage to warrant adding any in between.



I noticed a 0. 3-0. 5mpg increase and an audible decrease in engine noise upon switching to Amsoil.



My change intervals are filter at 5k and filter/oil at 10k miles. I'm sure it's safe to go much longer especially with all the testimonials and oil analyses out there, but I am an old-school oil/filter change every 3000 miles kind of guy, so for peace of mind and to satisfy the twinge I start getting periodically, I go every 10k

I'm on my first run with Amsoil in the crankcase and I've notice increased useage but also the . 3-. 5 mileage increase. I didn't use the engine clean first so maybe that's why it's using some now. I always used Delo before trying this Amsoil. After this weekend I'll probably have close to 5k on this oil run and I'm going to sample so I'll be curious how it comes back (compared to the Delo samples)
