Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) Synthetic switchover

What is the recommended mileage before changing to syn? I only have 6,000 miles right now.

Some will say go ahead and switch now others will say wait until 10-20k. I personally switched over about 13k.

I guess it depends on your change intervals at which point it makes sense to switch. I did it somewhere around 13k. I would do one more oil change with the dino lube at least. If you are twoing hard you can switch earlier, if it is just unloaded driving take it out a little longer to ensure break in.

As for other components, diffs, transmission etc. you should change those over any timeyou want.

Second oil change;

If you go to"Customer Assistance" & "FAQ" at http://www.cummins.com/na , they suggest that synthetics may be used from the "Second" oil change or beyond !!

Changed over at approximately 40,000 but most recommend around 10. 000 before switching.
