With AT and 4. 10 your about average, maybe a little on the low side from what I've seen posted. I'm getting 20-21 on mine now. About 34000 and its still climbing, but I don't think it will get any better. Maybe your dealer needs to look at it.

Daniel,

When you say 'Mobil 1', I hope you mean 'Delvac 1'. Mobil 1 isn't rated for diesel engines, not that this would cause your poor mileage--but you should switch to a diesel rated engine oil.

Good Luck,
Matt

Daniel... .

I have 6K miles, and from first tank on I'm averaging 14. 8 mpg. city/hwy. I don't tow, and always run empty. Never had better than 15. 75.

This has been a little dissapointing as I see many are getting much better right from the start. But,I knew with 4. 10's it would be worse than 3. 54's. I also don't baby this truck.

So far, the fun factor far outweighs the fuel milage issue. This could change if fuel goes to $3/gallon #ad

I'm hopeful it will improve at around 25K.

As you'll notice from the sig. I've got two more tires on the ground, still got 17. 8mpg last weekend on a "little" 400mi trip to pick-up daughter at college. Ran with cruise set at 63mph, tailgate on, no cap/cover. Seems to be the sweetspot for my truck for milage, also prevents speeding tickets from the local sherrif. My milage now at 14,000. Just switched to Amsoil, saw no improvement in mpg over reg. oil. As the miles increase, your mpg probably will also. (Have you towed any decent weight yet?), my mpg increased approx. 1. 5mpg after pulling a car/transporter 500+ miles. These babies LOVE to pull a good load, it helps with the break-in.

13,000 is not too soon for synthetics, get the Mobil One out of there, and you'll be fine.

I have synthetic rear-end fluid, but conventionals everywhere else. With 36K on the truck, I average 24 (@ 70 mph) on the open highway and 19 in the city only. I don't baby the truck whatsoever. 3. 54, quad-cab, longbed, with a cap. I can't see paying that much for oil that I wind up changing after only 3 months, which is 5K miles for me.

13k is not a bad time to start, but 15-20k is better. But as mentioned, DO NOT use Mobil 1, it is not designed for Diesels, use Amsoil or Delvac

at 13,233 miles I changed to mobil 1? the reason i ask is poor fuel mileage. just got back from a trip towing 8k trailer on cruise control @ 65mph in OD @ 1900 rpm and barely averaged 10 mpg. Most people on this board are getting 12+ @70-75mph some with much larger loads. none of the 13k miles was done while towing. Am i not broken in quite yet? i currently have 25k miles on my baby and get an average of 13-14 avg city/hwy mix and around 16 all hwy @70mph and 2000 rpm would droping down in tire size help me much by increasing rpm or do i need to go back to conventional oil and do some more towing. need some help from the guru's of this board to increase my mpg. any other recommendations would be appreciated thanks in advance and happy ramming!!

I poped Amsoil in mine at 1500 when I drained out the factory stuff. I got 28,000 now and I'm pulling 21 around town at 60mph and on cross country I get around 23 to 24 at 65 and it looks to be going up some more. I was at about 19 and 21 untill I put an EZ-box on at 23,000. I put the Dodge synthetic in the pumkins same time as the EZ and nothing in the transmission since it already has synthetic. -Mundgyver-
