Now I know that there has been all sorts of discussion on types, brands, do's, and dont's..... yadda yadda

I just hit 55000 miles on my 02 and figure I want to change all my fluids over to synthetics. Engine, trans, xfer, diffs, everything.

What I want the help with is what have you guys found lately is the best, in your opinion of course. Amsoil, RP, whatever brand you use. Let me know what you suggest and if you have info, why? Thanks for the help. Russ

I just recently switched my trans, transfer case, and differentials over to Amsoil. The transmission feels totally different with the Amsoil in it. I am getting ready to add the bypass and Amsoil synthetic as well. My experiance with amsoil has been great with my motorcyles along the years.

Based upon what I have read and personally feel, if I was going to invest the extra $$$ in synthetic lubes, it would be Amsoil...

I have been using Amsoil since it was made in 1972, it was the first company to come out with Synthetics. I use the Motor oil, trans Diff, etc. I still change it every 6000 miles though.

I have always used Vavoline Premium Blue; now the Extreme. Last fill was Royal Purple. It breaks down too much in hot weather. about 5+ degrees more than the pb. I use redline transmission and for now RP in the rear. Don't know if I am killing it or not. Have enough to change it again, so will use it all up and hope..... :{

I've used Amsoil for 20+yrs in everything I own. I have Amsoil front to rear. I just recently changed the 6spd to Amsoil's MTF and am very pleased with the cold weather performance.

Engine: HDD Series 3000 5W30

Fr/Rf Diff: SVO 75W140

6spd: MTF

Transaxle: ATF

Pwr Str: ATF

Great info guys.

DM Thanks for the specifics, after all the homework I have been doing that is about the same way I am wanting to run it.

synthetic oil and grease

Well in 85 I looked up information on synthetics. Magazines, periodicals and in research papers. I even phoned API ( I won't mention the gentlemans name but he sent me more info then I requseted so that was much appreaciated.

Mobil Oil did alot of recearch into it so they know there stuff.

So have used Mobil Oil since. The syn grease that they have was $12. 00 a tube now $30. 00 so have switched to one of Petro Can's syn grease.

96 3500 5 speed - Been running on RP throughout for 10 years with great results. Oo. Still going strong.

Previous to that, had an 89 350 5 speed that ran on RP for 100,000 (170,000 and 7 years) on the truck before I sold it to buy the 96. Excellent resluts and the getrag was still working great. :D

Use and API licensed oil - not the brands that only claim to exceed, go to the API website and confirm or technically you are voiding your warranty.

Guess what - Mobil 1 is not a diesel engine rated oil - you must be using Devac 1. You do know what you are putting in your truck right?

Should be an API rated CH-4 / CI-4 / CI-4+ / SL oil right?

The Mobil 1 5W-40 Truck/SUV is DIESEL RATED & the ratings seem to be the latest.

I started with Royal Purple in the whole truck - engine, trans, x-fer case & axles. I didn't notice a difference with the engine oil, it seemed to get dirty faster & I change it every 5,000 miles.

I have using the Valvoline Premium Blue Extreme 5W-40. The truck seems to make a little less racket, but pressure are the same & the oil gets dirty as fast the Royal Purple. I not really impressed with the oils I have used so far.

After 20,000 miles, (truck has 75,000 miles) I am in the process of getting set up with AMSOIL & WILL BE CHANGING EVERYTHING OUT TO AMSOIL. I am going to add the by-pass filter set-up & try oil analysis. There is potential to save money - Just have to wait & see.

Wayne (Amsoilman) is here in Utah & has answered several PM for me. He seems very knowledgable about synthetics, he's an Amsoil dealer.

You won't find a better guy to deal with than Wayne - he's one of the few remaining "go the second mile" guys! ;) :D

Amsoil bumper to bumper including grease.

front diff. : series 2000 75w90

rear diff. :Sever gear 75w140

engine now on 15w40 Diesel & Marine, was running series 3000 5w30

NV5600: MTF

T-case: series 3000 5w30, next change I will put MTF in.

Bypass filter BMK-11 with BE-100 element

Before installing the bypass filter I was running 12k miles with analysis. I am now towing for a living and I ran my last series 3000 oil for 61k before the report said to change it (ran another 6k before I was able to change it). There was nothing serious wrong with it other then some slightly elevated wear metals. That oil also had a lot of stop and go short trips at home before I hit the road. Right now I'm going 25k between filters and analysis and it seems to be working out fine. My engine is staying nice and clean inside too as I saw at my last valve adjustment.

I buy my oil through the Amsoil website with a prefered membership to get wholesale pricing.

Talked to wayne (amsoilman) yesterday. Great guy! He gave me a call and we went over everything. Will be picking up all the stuff next week at his house to do a complete change, bumper to bumper. Thanks for all the help guys!

Royal Purple here... no strong preference.

I went to RP in the diff and trans before going with the engine oil. I started using RP instead of Amsoil just because I had a new car in the garage and wanted to use an API certified oil. Nothing against Amsoil, I know it is great stuff!

I'm going to start oil analysis at the next oil change. We'll see what that turns up.

Am I right in saying that everything mentioned in this thread is good stuff? I mean, when discussing RP vs. Redline vs. Mobil Delvac vs. Amsoil we're splitting pretty small hairs - it partially just comes down to brand preference.

If I had someone as knowledgeable and involved as Wayne close to me I'd probably be running Amsoil too.

I've been using Amsoil throughout for 50,000 miles. Use a Frantz filter just for insurance and change oil at 10K miles, with frantz element change every 2K. Engine doesn't use a drop of oil between element changes. Truck has 54 K miles on it at the moment.

YUP - there it is again - anyone else starting to see the trend? ;) :D

I knew it wasn't just my imagination! ;) ;)
