HELP: My electrical system is shorting out and I don't know where. It's affecting my spedo everytime i add gas or step on the brake the system is shorting out sending the spedo to the full extent of 100 then back down. The speakers also crackle.

Does anybody have any idea what the hell is hapening to my truck could the short be through the spedo?

Dont have a clue but dont want you thinking you are ignored. Thats a tough one to figure, hopefully some one has a fix.

Good Luck

I'd start with the obvious. Look at the wiring harness parts that flex as the engine moves with changes in power. Since the speedo is affected, look at the harness going to the sender unit. If ours were 1994-7, it would be on the side of the transmission or transfer case (if 4x4). For your 98, the sender is on the rear axle, combined with the antilock brake sensor, if I recall. Look for wiring insulation that is chafed or worn through.

Hope this helps some.
